The hydrodynamic study of a three‐phase airlift (TPAL) bioreactor with an enlarged gas–liquid dual separator was carried out. Different lengths and diameters of the draft tube were tested to show how the design of the separator zone affects the hydrodynamic performance of the TPAL reactor. Ca‐alginate beads with entrapped yeast biomass at different loadings (0, 7, 14 and 21% v/v) were used in order to mimic the solid phase of conventional high cell density systems, such as those with cells immobilized on carriers or flocculating cells. Important information on multiphase flow and distribution of gas and solid phases in the internal‐loop airlift reactor (ALR) with high solids loading was obtained, which can be used for suggesting optimal hydrodynamic conditions in a TPAL bioreactor with high solids loading. It is finally suggested that the ALR with a dual separator and a downcomer to riser cross‐sectional area ratio (AD/AR) ranging from 1.2 to 2.0 can be successfully applied to batch/continuous high cell density systems, where the uniform distribution of solid phase, its efficient separation of particles from the liquid phase, and an improved residence time of air bubbles inside the reactor are desirable. The kinetics of phase‐transfer catalyzed etherification of sodium phenoxide with ethyl 2‐bromoisobutyrate to produce ethyl 2‐phenoxyisobutyrate in a solid–liquid system has been investigated. Being catalyzed by the quaternary ‘onium salts, the reaction was carried out in a stirred batch reactor to explore the effects of various operating variables. At a temperature of 80 °C and a molar ratio of tetra‐n‐butylammonium bromide to sodium phenoxide equal to 0.372, 94% conversion was obtained after 4 h, and no other side products were observed. A kinetic model of pseudo‐first‐order reaction accompanied by catalyst deactivation was proposed to describe the overall reaction. A deactivation function was employed to evaluate the kinetic parameters. The decay of catalytic activity was mainly caused by the deposition of the salts produced on the surface of solid particles. The results show that the initial reaction rate was not influenced by the agitation rate when exceeding 350 rpm, but the deactivation rate increased with increasing stirring speed and the amount of catalyst used. The intrinsic organic reaction was conducted by the phase‐transfer catalytic intermediate. The order of reactivity for different phase‐transfer catalysts was determined as tetra‐n‐butylphosphonium bromide > tetra‐n‐butylammonium bromide > tetra‐n‐butylammonium iodide ≈ tetra‐n‐butylammonium hydrogen sulfate ≈ Aliquat 336. The apparent activation energy for tetra‐n‐butylammonium bromide was estimated as 51.4 kJ mol−1. This work provides an improved method for synthesizing phenolic substances in solid–liquid phases and preventing unfavorable side reactions. © 2000 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Aerobic treatment of refinery wastewater was carried out in a 200 dm3 gas–liquid–solid three‐phase flow airlift loop bioreactor, in which a biological membrane replaced the activated sludge. The influences of temperature, pH, gas–liquid ratio and hydraulic residence time on the reductions in chemical oxygen demand (COD) and NH4‐N were investigated and discussed. The optimum operation conditions were obtained as temperature of 25–35 °C, pH value of 7.0–8.0, gas–liquid ratio of 50 and hydraulic residence time of 4 h. The radial and axial positions had little influence on the local profiles of COD and NH4‐N. Under the optimum operating conditions, the effluent COD and NH4‐N were less than 100 mg dm?3 and 15 mg dm?3 respectively for more than 40 days, satisfying the national primary discharge standard of China (GB 8978‐1996). This study evaluates the feasibility of using a continuous‐flow stirred vessel reactor (CFSVR) to synthesize n‐butyl phenyl ether (ROPh) from n‐butyl bromide (RBr) and sodium phenolate (NaOPh) by liquid–liquid–solid phase‐transfer catalysis (triphase catalysis). The factors affecting the preparation of triphase catalysts, the etherification reaction in a batch reactor, and the performance in a CFSVR were investigated. The kinetic study with a batch reactor indicated that when the initial concentration of NaOPh or RBr was high, the conversion of RBr would depend on the initial concentration of both RBr and NaOPh. The reaction can be represented by a pseudo‐first‐order kinetic model when the concentration of NaOPh is in proper excess to that of RBr, and the apparent activation energy is 87.8 kJ mol?1. When the etherification reaction was carried out in the CFSVR, the catalyst particles did not flow out of the reactor, even at a high agitation speed. The conversion of RBr in the CFSVR was, as predicted, lower than that in the batch reactor, but was higher than the theoretical value because the dispersed phase is not completely mixed. This article discusses the characteristics of turbulent gas–liquid flow through tubular reactors/contactors equipped with screen‐type static mixers from a macromixing perspective. The effect of changing the reactor configuration, and the operating conditions, were investigated by using four different screen geometries of varying mesh numbers. Residence time distribution experiments were conducted in the turbulent regime (4500 < Re < 29,000). Using a deconvolution technique, the RTD function was extracted to quantify the axial/longitudinal liquid‐phase dispersion coefficient. The findings highlight that axial dispersion increases with an increasing flow rate and/or gas‐phase volume fraction. However, regardless of the number and geometry of the mixing elements, reactor configuration, and/or operating conditions, the recorded liquid‐phase axial dispersion coefficients in the presence of screens was lower than that for an empty pipe. Furthermore, the geometry of the screen was found to directly affect the axial dispersion coefficient in the reactor. © 2016 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 63: 1390–1403, 2017  相似文献

High‐throughput microporous tube‐in‐tube microchannel reactor (MTMCR) was first designed and developed as a novel gas–liquid contactor. Experimentally measured kLα in MTMCR is at least one or two orders of magnitude higher than those in the conventional gas–liquid contactors. A high throughput of 500 L/h for gas and 43.31 L/h for liquid is over 60 times higher than that of T‐type microchannel. An increase of the gas or liquid flow rate, as well as a reduction of the micropore size and annular channel width of MTMCR, could greatly intensify the gas–liquid mass transfer. The interfacial area, α, in MTMCR was measured to be as high as 2.2 × 105 m2/m3, which is much higher than those of microchannels (3400–9000 m2/m3) and traditional contactors (50–2050 m2/m3). The artificial neural network model was proposed for predicting α, revealing only an average absolute relative error of <5%. © 2010 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 2011  相似文献

The main objective of this study is to predict the performance of an industrial‐scale (ID = 5.8 m) slurry bubble column reactor (SBCR) operating with iron‐based catalyst for Fischer–Tropsch (FT) synthesis, with emphasis on catalyst deactivation. To achieve this objective, a comprehensive reactor model, incorporating the hydrodynamic and mass‐transfer parameters (gas holdup, εG, Sauter‐mean diameter of gas bubbles, d32, and volumetric liquid‐side mass‐transfer coefficients, kLa), and FT as well as water gas shift reaction kinetics, was developed. The hydrodynamic and mass‐transfer parameters for He/N2 gaseous mixtures, as surrogates for H2/CO, were obtained in an actual molten FT reactor wax produced from the same reactor. The data were measured in a pilot‐scale (0.29 m) SBCR under different pressures (4–31 bar), temperatures (380–500 K), superficial gas velocities (0.1–0.3 m/s), and iron‐based catalyst concentrations (0–45 wt %). The data were modeled and predictive correlations were incorporated into the reactor model. The reactor model was then used to study the effects of catalyst concentration and reactor length‐to‐diameter ratio (L/D) on the water partial pressure, which is mainly responsible for iron catalyst deactivation, the H2 and CO conversions and the C5+ product yields. The modeling results of the industrial SBCR investigated in this study showed that (1) the water partial pressure should be maintained under 3 bars to minimize deactivation of the iron‐based catalyst used; (2) the catalyst concentration has much more impact on the gas holdup and reactor performance than the reactor height; and (3) the reactor should be operated in the kinetically controlled regime with an L/D of 4.48 and a catalyst concentration of 22 wt % to maximize C5+ products yield, while minimizing the iron catalyst deactivation. Under such conditions, the H2 and CO conversions were 49.4% and 69.3%, respectively, and the C5+ products yield was 435.6 ton/day. © 2015 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 61: 3838–3857, 2015  相似文献

The liquid–liquid extraction of Hg(II) from acidic chloride solutions has been studied using bis‐2‐ethylhexyl sulfoxide (B2EHSO) as an extractant. For comparison, extraction studies have also been carried out using di‐n‐octyl sulfoxide (DOSO) and diphenyl sulfoxide (DPhSO). The extraction data have been analysed by both graphical and theoretical methods taking into account aqueous phase speciation and all plausible complexes extracted into the organic phase. These results demonstrate that Hg(II) is extracted into xylene as HgCl2.3R2SO (where R2SO represents the sulfoxide). The equilibrium constant of the extracted complex has been deduced by non‐linear regression analysis. The developed liquid–liquid extraction procedure has been applied for the recovery of mercury from the brine‐sludge of a Chlor‐Alkali plant. © 2001 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

In this work, the gas‐liquid mass transfer in a lab‐scale fibrous bed reactor with liquid recycle was studied. The volumetric gas‐liquid mass transfer coefficient, kLa, is determined over a range of the superficial liquid velocity (0.0042–0.0126 m.s–1), gas velocity (0.006–0.021 m.s–1), surface tension (35–72 mN/m), and viscosity (1–6 mPa.s). Increasing fluid velocities and viscosity, and decreasing interfacial tension, the volumetric oxygen transfer coefficient increased. In contrast to the case of co‐current flow, the effect of gas superficial velocity was found to be more significant than the liquid superficial velocity. This behavior is explained by variation of the coalescing gas fraction and the reduction in bubble size. A correlation for kLa is proposed. The predicted values deviate within ± 15 % from the experimental values, thus, implying that the equation can be used to predict gas‐liquid mass transfer rates in fibrous bed recycle bioreactors.  相似文献

Nonbonded and chemically bonded organic–inorganic composite materials, ABS/SiO2 and ABS Si(OCH3)3/SiO2, were prepared by the sol‐gel processing of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) in the presence of ABS and trimethoxysilyl functionalized ABS, ABS Si(OCH3)3, under the catalization of NH4F. The ABS Si(OCH3)3 was obtained by oxidizing the cyano group in ABS with hydrogen peroxide, then subsequently underwent ring‐opening reaction with 3‐glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTS). The ABS Si(OCH3)3/TEOS sol‐gel liquid solution system, in which the ABS chains formed the covalent bonds with silica network and helped fix the polymer chains in the silica network, had a shorter gelation time than that of the ABS/TEOS system, which linked ABS chains to the silica network only by hydrogen bonding the cyano groups in ABS to the silanol groups. The morphology and properties of composite were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), tensile tests, and thermogravimetry. It was found that the composite prepared from ABS Si(OCH3)3 had higher tensile strength, glass transition point (Tg), thermal stability, and more homogeneous morphology because of the existence of the covalent bond between ABS chains and silica network that increased the compatibility between the organic and inorganic phases. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The kinetics of the thermally induced solid‐state polymerization (SSP) of nylon‐6 were examined in both a fixed‐bed reactor and a rotary reactor. Factors such as the regulator content, the reaction temperature and time, the particle size, the type and geometry of the nylon‐6 prepolymer, the nitrogen gas flow rate, the water content of the nitrogen gas flow, and the polymerization process were studied. The results showed that the regulator content, the reaction temperature and time, and the particle size were the primary factors, and that the others were negligible. Moreover, the SSP rate and number‐average molecular weight (Mn) increased with increasing reaction temperature and time and decreasing particle size. The SSP rate and Mn had maximum values with increasing regulator content in an experimental range of 0.03–0.07 wt %. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The oxidative dehydrogenation of a 1‐butene/trans‐butene (1:1) mixture to 1,3‐butadiene was carried out in a two‐zone fluidized bed reactor using a Mo‐V‐MgO and a γ‐Bi2MoO6 catalyst. The significant operating conditions temperature, oxygen/butene molar ratio, butene inlet height, and flow velocity were varied to gain high 1,3‐butadiene selectivity and yield. Furthermore, axial concentration profiles were measured inside the fluidized bed to gain insight into the reaction network in the two zones. For optimized conditions and with a suitable catalyst, the two‐zone fluidized bed reactor makes catalyst regeneration and catalytic reaction possible in a single vessel. In the lower part of the fluidized bed, the oxidation of coke deposits on the catalyst as well as the filling of oxygen vacancies in the lattice can occur. The oxidative dehydrogenation reaction takes place in the upper zone. Thorough particle mixing inside fluidized beds causes permanent particle exchange between both zones. © 2016 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 63: 43–50, 2017  相似文献

Catalytic steam reforming of bio‐oil is an economically‐feasible route which produces renewable hydrogen. The Ni/MgO‐La2O3‐Al2O3 catalyst was prepared with Ni as active agent, Al2O3 as support, and MgO and La2O3 as promoters. The experiments were conducted in fixed bed and fluidized bed reactors, respectively. Temperature, steam‐to‐carbon mole ratio (S/C), and liquid hourly space velocity (LHSV) were investigated with hydrogen yield as index. For the fluidized bed reactor, maximum hydrogen yield was obtained under temperatures 700–800 °C, S/C 15–20, LHSV 0.5–1.0 h–1, and the maximum H2 yield was 75.88 %. The carbon deposition content obtained from the fluidized bed was lower than that from the fixed bed. The maximum H2 yield obtained in the fluidized bed was 7 % higher than that of the fixed bed. The carbon deposition contents obtained from the fluidized bed was lower than that of the fixed bed at the same reaction temperature.  相似文献

Gas–liquid chromatography is used to study the thermodynamic interactions between polystyrene and n‐alkanes (C6–C10). Polystyrene is used as a stationary phase with n‐alkanes as the probe molecules. Retention times and specific retention volumes are measured over the temperature interval of 60 to 170°C. Partial molar free energy of mixing, polymer–solvent interaction parameter, glass‐transition temperature, and solubility parameter of polystyrene at infinite dilution are calculated. Experimental results are discussed in terms of the theoretical calculations and size of the probe molecules. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 80: 1291–1298, 2001  相似文献

A multidimensional heterogeneous and dynamic model of a fixed‐bed heat exchanger reactor used for CO2 methanation has been developed in this work that is based on mass, energy and momentum balances in the gas phase and mass and energy balances for the catalyst phase. The dynamic behavior of this reactor is simulated for transient variations in inlet gas temperature, cooling temperature, gas inlet flow rate, and outlet pressure. Simulation results showed that wrong‐way behaviors can occur for any abrupt temperature changes. Conversely, temperature ramp changes enable to attenuate and even fade the wrong‐way behavior. Traveling hot spots appear only when the change of an operating condition shifts the reactor from an ignited steady state to a non‐ignited one. Inlet gas flow rate variations reveal overshoots and undershoots of the reactor maximum temperature. © 2017 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 64: 468–480, 2018  相似文献

In this work, a pellet string reactor was characterized with respect to hydrodynamics and mass transfer. The catalyst packing consists of a cylindrical channel with a diameter of 1.41 mm, which was filled with spherical catalyst particles, having an outer diameter of 0.8 mm. Under reaction conditions (liquid phase hydrogenation of α‐methylstyrene) overall (gas‐liquid‐solid) volumetric mass transfer coefficients for hydrogen between 0.8 and 5.5 s–1 were computed. Due to high mass transfer rates and simple reactor geometry, pellet string reactors can be applied in industry as highly efficient reaction units.  相似文献

A novel method for the measurement of wetting efficiency in a trickle‐bed reactor under reaction conditions is introduced. The method exploits reaction rate differences of two first‐order liquid‐limited reactions occurring in parallel, to infer wetting efficiencies without any other knowledge of the reaction kinetics or external mass transfer characteristics. Using the hydrogenation of linear‐ and isooctenes, wetting efficiency is measured in a 50‐mm internal diameter, high‐pressure trickle‐bed reactor. Liquid–solid mass transfer coefficients are also estimated from the experimental conversion data. Measurements were performed for upflow operation and two literature‐defined boundaries of hydrodynamic multiplicity in trickle flow. Hydrodynamic multiplicity in trickle flow gave rise to as much as 10% variation in wetting efficiency, and 10–20% variation in the specific liquid–solid mass transfer coefficient. Conversions for upflow operation were significantly higher in trickle‐flow operation, because of complete wetting and better liquid–solid mass transfer characteristics. © 2010 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 2011.  相似文献

The main objective of this work was to propose a new process for household fume incineration treatment: the droplet column. A feature of this upward gas‐liquid reactor which makes it original, is to use high superficial gas velocities (13 m s–1) which allow acid gas scrubbing at low energy costs. Tests were conducted to characterize the hydrodynamics, mass transfer performances, and acid gas scrubbing under various conditions of superficial gas velocity (from 10.0 to 12.0 m s–1) and superficial liquid velocity (from 9.4·10–3 to 18.9·10–3 m s–1). The following parameters characterized the hydrodynamics: pressure drops, liquid hold‐ups, and liquid residence time distribution were identified and investigated with respect to flow conditions. To characterize mass transfer in the droplet column, three parameters were determined: the gas‐liquid interfacial area (a), the liquid‐phase volumetric mass transfer coefficient (kLa) and the gas‐phase volumetric mass transfer coefficient (kGa). Gas absorption with chemical reaction methods were applied to evaluate a and kGa, while a physical absorption method was used to estimate kLa. The influence of the gas and liquid velocities on a, kLa, and kGa were investigated. Furthermore, tests were conducted to examine the utility of the droplet column for the acid gas scrubbing, of gases like hydrogen chloride (HCl) and sulfur dioxide (SO2). This is a process of high efficiency and the amount of pollutants in the cleaned air is always much lower than the regulatory European standards imposed on household waste incinerators.  相似文献
