Poly ε‐caprolactone‐polystyrene block‐copolymers (PCL‐b‐PSt) were synthesized using a modified titanium catalyst as the dual initiator. Alcoholysis of Ti(OPr)4 by 4‐hydroxy 2,2,6,6 tetramethyl piperidinyl‐1‐oxyl (HO‐TEMPO) gave a bifunctional initiator Ti(OTEMPO)4. Poly ε‐caprolactone prepolymer end‐capped with the nitroxide group was first prepared by ring opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone with this initiator at high conversion. The nitroxide‐end‐capped structure and molar mass (Mn) of the polymers were demonstrated by typical UV absorption band. This analytical technique indicates a near‐quantitative nitroxide functionality and a Mn in good agreement with size exclusion chromatography (SEC) ones. This polyester prepolymer was used to further initiate the radical polymerization with styrene and reach the block copolymers (PCL‐b‐PSt). All the prepolymers and block copolymers were characterized by SEC and NMR spectroscopy. Additionally, the preparation of star polymers bearing two kinds of arms (PCL and PSt) was envisaged and a preliminary result was given. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The spherulitic growth rates of a series poly (?‐caprolactone) homopolymers and poly(?‐caprolactone)‐b‐ poly(ethylene glycol) (PCL‐b‐PEG) block copolymers with different molecular weights but narrow polydispersity were studied. The results show that for both PCL homopolymers and PCL‐b‐PEG block copolymers, the spherulitic growth rate first increases with molecular weight and reaches a maximum, then decreases as molecular weight increases. Crystallization temperature has greater influence on the spherulitic growth rate of polymers with higher molecular weight. Hoffman–Lauritzen theory was used to analyze spherulitic growth kinetics and the free energy of the folding surface (σe) was derived. It is found that the values of σe decrease with molecular weight at low molecular weight level and become constant for high molecular weight polymers. The chemically linked PEG block does not change the values of σe significantly. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 2007  相似文献

It is successfully realized that block copolymers are synthesized via metathesis polymerization followed by free‐radical polymerization. This method is performed using styrene (St) and norbornene, one block is synthesized using the Grubbs second generation catalyst in the presence of chain transfer agents, and the subsequent polymerization of St is initiated by azo compounds to complete the additional blocks in the copolymers. The use of free‐radical polymerization instead of controlled radical polymerization or ionic polymerization can be potentially superior for industrialization. As a result, the molecular weights of the block copolymers ranging from 10.4 to 54.3 kDa and polydispersity indices ranging from 1.30 to 1.91 are obtained. In principle, this new method can be potentially useful to prepare a broad range of block copolymers with cyclic olefin groups in the main chains, which may be used in some particular applications.  相似文献

Poly(L ‐lactide‐co‐ε‐caprolactone)‐b‐poly(L ‐lactide) [P(LL‐co‐CL)‐b‐PLL] diblock copolyesters were synthesized in a two‐step process with 1‐dodecanol (DDC) and stannous octoate as the initiating system. In the first‐step reaction, a 50:50 mol % amorphous poly(L ‐lactide‐co‐ε‐caprolactone) [P(LL‐co‐CL)] copolyester was synthesized via the bulk copolymerization of L ‐lactide and ε‐caprolactone, which was followed by the polymerization of the PLL crystalline block at the end chain in the second‐step reaction. The yielded copolyesters were characterized with dilute‐solution viscometry, gel permeation chromatography, 1H‐ and 13C‐NMR, and differential scanning calorimetry methods. The molecular weights of the P(LL‐co‐CL) copolyesters from the first‐step reaction were controlled by the DDC concentrations, whereas in the second‐step reaction, the molecular weights of the P(LL‐co‐CL)‐b‐PLL diblock copolyesters depended on the starting P(LL‐co‐CL) copolyester molecular weights and L ‐lactide/prepolymer molar ratios. The starting P(LL‐co‐CL) copolyester molecular weights and PLL block lengths seemed to be the main factors affecting specific thermal properties, including the melting temperature (Tm), heat of melting (ΔHm), crystallizing temperature (Tc), and heat of crystallizing (ΔHc), of the final P(LL‐co‐CL)‐b‐PLL diblock copolyester products. Tm, ΔHm, Tc, and ΔHc increased when the PLL block lengths increased. However, these thermal properties of the diblock copolyesters also decreased when the P(LL‐co‐CL) block lengths increased. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2007  相似文献

In recent years, much attention has been given to the development of specialty polymers from useful materials. In this context, amphiphilic block copolymers were prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of N‐phenylmaleimide (N‐PhMI) or styrene using a poly(2‐hydroxyethylmethacrylate)‐Cl macroinitiator/CuBr/bipyridine initiating system. The macroinitiator P(HEMA)‐Cl was directly prepared in toluene by reverse ATRP using BPO/FeCl3 6 H2O/PPh3 as initiating system. The microstructure of the block copolymers were characterized using FTIR, 1H‐NMR, 13C‐NMR spectroscopic techniques and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The thermal behavior was studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetry (TG). The theoretical number average molecular weight (Mn,th) was calculated from the feed capacity. The microphotographs of the film's surfaces show that the film's top surfaces were generally smooth. The TDT of the block copolymer P(HEMA)80b‐P(N‐PhMI)20 and P(HEMA)90b‐P(St)10 of about 290°C was also lower than that found for the macroi′nitiator poly(HEMA)‐Cl. The block copolymers exhibited only one Tg before thermal decomposition, which could be attributed to the low molar content of the N‐PhMI or St blocks respectively. This result also indicates that the phase behavior of the copolymers is predominately determined by the HEMA block. The curves reveal that the polymers show phase transition behavior of amorphous polymers. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2010  相似文献

Poly(n‐butyl methacrylate) (PBMA)‐b‐polystyrene (PSt) diblock copolymers were synthesized by emulsion atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). PBMA macroinitiators that contained alkyl bromide end groups were obtained by the emulsion ATRP of n‐butyl methacrylate with BrCH3CHCOOC2H5 as the initiator; these were used to initiate the ATRP of styrene (St). The latter procedure was carried out at 85°C with CuCl/4,4′‐di(5‐nonyl)‐2,2′‐bipyridine as the catalyst and polyoxyethylene(23) lauryl ether as the surfactant. With this technique, PBMA‐b‐PSt diblock copolymers were synthesized. The polymerization was nearly controlled; the ATRP of St from the macroinitiators showed linear increases in number‐average molecular weight with conversion. The block copolymers were characterized with IR spectroscopy, 1H‐NMR, and differential scanning calorimetry. The effects of the molecular weight of the macroinitiators, macroinitiator concentration, catalyst concentration, surfactant concentration, and temperature on the polymerization were also investigated. Thermodynamic data and activation parameters for the ATRP are also reported. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 98: 2123–2129, 2005  相似文献

The in‐vitro hydrolytic behavior of diblock copolymer films consisting of poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) was studied at pH 7.4 and pH 9.5 at 37°C. The degradation of these films was characterized at various time intervals by mass loss measurements, GPC, 1H‐NMR, DSC, FTIR, XRD, and SEM. A faster rate of degradation took place at pH 9.5 than at pH 7.4. Analysis of the molecular weight profile during the course of degradation revealed that random chain scission of the ester bonds in PCL predominates at the initial induction phase of polymer degradation. There was also an insignificant mass loss of the films observed. Mass spectroscopy was used to determine the nature of the water soluble products of degradation. At pH 7.4, a variety of oligomers with different numbers of repeating units were present whereas the harsher degradation conditions at pH 9.5 resulted in the formation of dimers. From the results, it can be proposed that a more complete understanding of the degradation behavior of the PCL‐b‐PEG copolymer can be monitored using a combination of physiological and accelerated hydrolytic degradation conditions. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An amphiphilic graft copolymer, hydroxypropylcellulose‐graft‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (HPC‐g‐PCL), was synthesized by bulk polymerization without a catalyst and characterized with one‐dimensional and two‐dimensional NMR spectroscopy. Molar substitution of ε‐caprolactone on HPC (MSCL) was estimated by both gravimetry and 1H‐NMR, and the gravimetric method was considered suitable for MSCL determination. Heterogeneity in the HPC‐g‐PCL film was suggested by a microscopic study, and the existence of PCL‐rich crystalline regions was confirmed by the results of X‐ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The double endotherm observed in the DSC scans of HPC‐g‐PCL was associated with the different molecular weight fractions in the copolymer. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Block copolymerization of plural types of monomers offers a new opportunity for the preparation of a variety of multifunctional polymers. Poly(4‐diphenylaminostyrene) (PDAS)‐poly(9‐vinylanthracene) (PVAN) binary block copolymer (PDAS‐PVAN) was synthesized by (living) anionic polymerization using the benzyllithium/N,N,N′,N′‐tetramethylethylenediamine system. The photoluminescence emission of PDAS‐PVAN was enhanced by the fluorescence resonance energy transfer from PDAS block to PVAN block in PDAS‐PVAN. The hole drift mobility of the copolymer was controllable by the amount of triphenylamino groups in the polymer chain. The optical and electrical properties of PDAS‐PVAN were adjustable through the polymer chain structure. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2010  相似文献

The synthesis of diblock copolymers using atom transfer radical polymerization, ATRP, of n‐butyl methacrylate, BMA, and methyl methacrylate, MMA, is reported. These copolymers were prepared from 2‐bromoisobutyryl‐terminated macroinitiators of poly(MMA) and poly(BMA), using copper chloride, CuCl,/N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetretramine, PMDETA, as the catalyst system, at 100°C in bulk and in benzonitrile solution. The block copolymers were characterized by means of size‐exclusion chromatography, SEC, and 1H‐NMR spectroscopy. The SEC analysis of the synthesized diblock copolymers confirmed important differences in the molecular weight control depending on the reaction medium (solvent effect) and the chemical structure of the macroinitiator used. In addition, differential scanning calorimetry, (DSC) measurements were performed, showing for all the copolymers a phase separation. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, two monomers, acrylamide (AM) and [2‐(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]trimethylammonium chloride (DMC) were copolymerized from kraft lignin (KL) in an aqueous suspension initiated by free radical copolymerization in the presence of potassium persulfate. The impact of copolymerization conditions on the charge density and molecular weight of the copolymers was investigated. The molecular weight and mass balance analyses confirmed that the homopolymer [polyDMC (PDMC) and polyAM (PAM)] and undesired copolymer (AM–DMC) productions dominated as time, initiator, and DMC dosage increased more than the optimum values. The activation energy of the polymerization of KL and AM (43.02 kJ mol?1), KL and DMC (21.99 kJ mol?1), AM (14.54 kJ mol?1), DMC (10.34 kJ mol?1), and AM and DMC (18.13 kJ mol?1) was determined. Proton nuclear magnetic resonance, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and elemental analysis confirmed the production of KL–AM–DMC copolymer. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Reverse iodine transfer polymerizations (RITP) of 2‐h‐ydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) were performed in N,N‐dimethylformamide at 75°C using AIBN as initiator. Poly(2‐hydroxyethyl acrylate) (PHEA) with Mn = 3300 g mol?1 and Mw/Mn <1.5 were obtained. Homopolymerization of styrene in RITP was also carried out under similar conditions using toluene as solvent. The resulting iodo‐polystyrene (PS‐I) with (Mn, SEC = 607 g mol?1, polydispersity index (PDI) = 1.31) was used as a macroinitiator for the synthesis of amphiphilic block copolymers based on HEA with controlled well‐defined structure. Poly(styrene‐b‐2‐hydroxyethyl acrylate) (PS‐b‐PHEA) with Mn = 13,000 g mol?1 and polydispersity index (Mw/Mn) = 1.4 was obtained, copolymer composition was characterized using 1H‐NMR and FTIR, whereas SEC and gradient HPLC were used to confirm the formation of block copolymer and the living character of polymer chains. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of triblock copolymer poly(octadecyl acrylate‐b‐styrene‐b‐octadecyl acrylate), using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), is reported. The copolymers were prepared in two steps. First, polystyrene was synthesized by ATRP using α,α′‐dichloro‐p‐xylene/CuBr/bpy as the initiating system; Second, polystyrene was further used as macroinitiator for the ATRP of octadecyl acrylate to prepare ABA triblock copolymers in the presence of FeCl2·4H2O/PPh3 in toluene. Polymers with controlled molecular weight (Mn = 17,000–23,400) and low polydispersity index value (1.33–1.44) were obtained. The relationship between molecular weight versus conversion showed a straight line. The effect of reaction temperature on polymerization was also investigated, showing a faster polymerization rate under higher temperature. The copolymers were characterized by FTIR, 1H‐NMR, DSC, and GPC and the crystallization behavior of the copolymers was also studied. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The poly(l ‐lactide)‐b‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(l ‐lactide) block copolymers (PLLA‐b‐PEG‐b‐PLLA) were synthesized in a toluene solution by the ring‐opening polymerization of 3,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐dioxan‐2,5‐dione (LLA) with PEG as a macroinitiator or by transterification from the homopolymers [polylactide and PEG]. Two polymerization conditions were adopted: method A, which used an equimolar catalyst/initiator molar ratio (1–5 wt %), and method B, which used a catalyst content commonly reported in the literature (<0.05 wt %). Method A was more efficient in producing copolymers with a higher yield and monomer conversion, whereas method B resulted in a mixture of the copolymer and homopolymers. The copolymers achieved high molar masses and even presenting similar global compositions, the molar mass distribution and thermal properties depends on the polymerization method. For instance, the suppression of the PEG block crystallization was more noticeable for copolymer A. An experimental design was used to qualify the influence of the catalyst and homopolymer amounts on the transreactions. The catalyst concentration was shown to be the most important factor. Therefore, the effectiveness of method A to produce copolymers was partly due to the transreactions. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2014 , 131, 40419.  相似文献

A series of novel lipid functionalized poly(ε‐caprolactone)s (PCLs) were synthesized through ROP of ε‐caprolactone in the presence of threo‐9,10‐dihydroxyoctadecanoic acid, synthesized from oleic acid. PCLs with different molecular weights were obtained by controlling the molar ratio of the initiator to the monomer. DSC and XRD analysis indicate that the crystallinity of PCLs decreased when compared to unfunctionalized PCL. The enzymatic degradation study shows that for samples with lower lipid derivatives content, a higher enzymatic degradation rate was observed because the lipase enzymes attack the ester bonds of the polymer; increased lipid content therefore inhibits the action of the lipase enzymes. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A serial of star‐shaped poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide) (SPPCL‐b‐PEO) block copolymers with porphyrin core were successfully synthesized from ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ε‐caprolactone (CL) initiated with porphyrin core, followed by coupling reaction with a hydrophilic polymer poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) shell. The structure of this novel copolymer were synthesized and thoroughly characterized by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Notably, the as‐prepared porphyrin‐cored star‐shaped copolymer could self‐assembly into different structures determined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and dynamic lighting scattering (DLS), which provides the great potential of using this well‐defined photodynamic therapy material for drug delivery system. Particularly, the doxorubicin‐loaded SPPCL‐b‐PEO nanosphere exhibits property of pH‐induced drug release. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2014 , 131, 40996.  相似文献

Diblock copolymers with different poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) block lengths were synthesized by ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone in the presence of monomethoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (mPEG‐OH, MW 2000) as initiator. The self‐aggregation behaviors and microscopic characteristics of the diblock copolymer self‐aggregates, prepared by the diafiltration method, were investigated by using 1H NMR, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and fluorescence spectroscopy. The PEG–PCL block copolymers formed the self‐aggregate in an aqueous environment by intra‐ and/or intermolecular association between hydrophobic PCL chains. The critical aggregation concentrations of the block copolymer self‐aggregate became lower with increasing hydrophobic PCL block length. On the other hand, reverse trends of mean hydrodynamic diameters were measured by DLS owing to the increasing bulkiness of the hydrophobic chains and hydrophobic interaction between the PCL microdomains. The partition equilibrium constants (Kv) of pyrene, measured by fluorescence spectroscopy, revealed that the inner core hydrophobicity of the nanoparticles increased with increasing PCL chain length. The aggregation number of PCL chain per one hydrophobic microdomain, investigated by the fluorescence quenching method using cetylpyridinium chloride as a quencher, revealed that 4–20 block copolymer chains were needed to form a hydrophobic microdomain, depending on PCL block length. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined poly(vinyl acetate‐b‐methyl methacrylate) block copolymers were successfully synthesized by the atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) in p‐xylene with CuBr as a catalyst, 2,2′‐bipyridine as a ligand, and trichloromethyl‐end‐grouped poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc–CCl3) as a macroinitiator that was prepared via the telomerization of vinyl acetate with chloroform as a telogen. The block copolymers were characterized with gel permeation chromatography, Fourier transform infrared, and 1H‐NMR. The effects of the solvent and temperature on ATRP of MMA were studied. The control over a large range of molecular weights was investigated with a high [MMA]/[PVAc–CCl3] ratio for potential industry applications. In addition, the mechanism of the polymerization was discussed. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 101: 1089–1094, 2006  相似文献

Polystyrene terminated with benzyl alcohol units was employed as a macroinitiator for ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone and L ‐lactide to yield AB‐ and ABC‐type block copolymers. Even though there are many reports on the diblock copolymers of poly(styrene‐block‐lactide) and poly(styrene‐block‐lactone), this is the first report on the poly(styrene‐block‐lactone‐block‐lactide) triblock copolymer consisting of two semicrystalline and degradable segments. The triblock copolymers exhibited twin melting behavior in differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis with thermal transitions corresponding to each of the lactone and lactide blocks. The block derived from ε‐caprolactone also showed crystallization transitions upon cooling from the melt. In the DSC analysis, one of the triblock copolymers showed an exothermic transition well above the melting temperature upon cooling. Thermogravimetric analysis of these block copolymers showed a two‐step degradation curve for the diblock copolymer and a three‐step degradation for the triblock copolymer with each of the degradation steps associated with each segment of the block copolymers. The present study shows that it is possible to make pure triblock copolymers with two semicrystalline segments which also consist of degradable blocks. Two series of poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐b‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) triblock copolymers were prepared by the ring opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone in the presence of poly(ethylene glycol) and dibutylmagnesium in 1,4‐dioxane solution at 70°C. The triblock structure and molecular weight of the copolymers were analyzed and confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FTIR, and gel permeation chromatography. The crystallization and thermal properties of the copolymers were investigated by wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results illustrated that the crystallization and melting behaviors of the copolymers were depended on the copolymer composition and the relative length of each block in copolymers. Crystallization exothermal peaks (Tc) and melting endothermic peaks (Tm) of PEG block were significantly influenced by the relative length of PCL blocks, due to the hindrance of the lateral PCL blocks. With increasing of the length of PCL blocks, the diffraction and the melting peak of PEG block disappeared gradually in the WAXD patterns and DSC curves, respectively. In contrast, the crystallization of PCL blocks was not suppressed by the middle PEG block. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2009  相似文献
