Let M be a complete hyperbolic 3-manifold admitting a homotopy equivalence to a compact surface ∑, such that the cusps of M are in bijective correspondence with the boundary components of ∑. Suppose we realise a tight geodesic in the curve complex as a sequence of closed geodesics M. There is an upper bound on the lengths of such curves in terms of the lengths of the terminal curves and the topologicial type of ∑. We give proofs of these and related bounds. Similar bounds have been proven by Minsky using the sophisticated machinery of hierarchies. Such bounds feature in the work of Brock, Canary and Minsky towards the ending lamination conjecture, and can also be used to study the action of the mapping class group on the curve complex. This paper proves a strong convergence theorem for sequences of pseudo-holomorphic maps from a Riemann surface to a symplectic manifoldN with tamed almost complex structure. (These are the objects used by Gromov to define his symplectic invariants.) The paper begins by developing some analytic facts about such maps, including a simple new isoperimetric inequality and a new removable singularity theorem. The main technique is a general procedure for renormalizing sequences of maps to obtain “bubbles on bubbles.” This is a significant step beyond the standard renormalization procedure of Sacks and Uhlenbeck. The renormalized maps give rise to a sequence of maps from a “bubble tree”—a map from a wedge Σ V S2 V S2 V ... →N. The main result is that the images of these renormalized maps converge in L1,2 ∪C° to the image of a limiting pseudo-holomorphic map from the bubble tree. This implies several important properties of the bubble tree. In particular, the images of consecutive bubbles in the bubble tree intersect, and if a sequence of maps represents a homology class then the limiting map represents this class. 相似文献

The generalized state space of a commutative C*-algebra, denoted , is the set of positive unital maps from C(X) to the algebra of bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space . C*-convexity is one of several non-commutative analogs of convexity which have been discussed in this context. In this paper
we show that a C*-extreme point of satisfies a certain spectral condition on the operators in the range of the associated positive operator-valued measure.
This result enables us to show that C*-extreme maps from C(X) into , the algebra generated by the compact and scalar operators, are multiplicative. This generalizes a result of D. Farenick
and P. Morenz. We then determine the structure of these maps.

We give a new characterization of the Tutte polynomial of graphs. Our characterization is formally close (but inequivalent) to the original definition given by Tutte as the generating function of spanning trees counted according to activities. Tutte’s notion of activity requires a choice of a linear order on the edge set (though the generating function of the activities is, in fact, independent of this order). We define a new notion of activity, the embedding-activity, which requires a choice of a combinatorial embedding of the graph, that is, a cyclic order of the edges around each vertex. We prove that the Tutte polynomial equals the generating function of spanning trees counted according to embedding-activities. This generating function is, in fact, independent of the embedding. We establish further regularity of the Cα and H1,p limits of smooth, n-dimensional Riemannian manifolds with a lower bound on Ricci tensor and injectivity radius, and an upper bound on volume, first considered in [1]. We use this extra regularity to show that such a limit is a nonbranching geodesic space, as defined in [10], and to construct a variant of a geodesic flow for such a limit. We consider the problem of parametric inference from continuous sample paths of the diffusion processes {x(t)} generated by the system of possibly nonstationary and/or nonlinear Ito stochastic differential equations. We propose a new instrumental variable estimator of the parameter whose pivotal statistic has a Gaussian distribution for all possible values of parameter. The new estimator enables us to construct exact level-α confidence intervals and tests for the parameter in the possibly non-stationary and/or nonlinear diffusion processes. Wynn used generalized inverses to interpret continued fractions containing vector-valued elements. This approach led to the introduction of generalized inverse, vector-valued Padé approximants (GIPAs). All possible cases of degeneracy of GIPAs are analysed in this paper. We derive linear equations for the coefficients of the denominator polynomial of a GIPA. The solution of these equations allows construction of a GIPA in all cases where such a GIPA exists. We investigate the chromatic number of infinite graphs whose definition is motivated by the theorem of Engelking and Kar?owicz (in [?]).
