Role of Insulation Effectiveness on Fire Resistance of Steel Structures under Extreme Loading Events
Fire performance of steel structures is highly dependent on the effectiveness of applied fire insulation. However, insulation materials are susceptible to damage under extreme loading events. A state-of-the-art review on the role of insulation damage on fire resistance of steel structures is presented. Parametric studies on a six-story steel-framed building were carried out to illustrate the effect of insulation damage on fire response of a steel structure. In the analysis, realistic fire scenarios, loading, and failure criteria were taken into consideration. Analysis results indicate that the fire resistance of a steel-framed structure is significantly influenced by the extent of insulation loss, type of fire scenario, and level of lateral load. Insulation damage causes faster deterioration in the structural response of framed buildings under the combined effect of fire and lateral loading. The need for accounting for any insulation damage, arising under extreme loading events, in fire design of steel-framed structures is highlighted, and a performance-based design strategy incorporating fire resistance analysis is discussed. 相似文献

This paper presents a mixed element approach for analyzing steel frame structures subjected to a localized explosion and followed by fire. Critical members that are subjected to direct action of explosion and fire are modeled using shell elements. Noncritical members that are away from the affected area are modeled using beam elements. The proposed approach is computationally efficient for modeling large-scale structures and accurate enough to capture detailed behavior of member inelasticity and instability associated with the effects of blast and fires. Section classification may change from static load to blast load because of the enhanced yield strength due to high strain rate. The beam element approach is found to overpredict the overall resistance of steel frame structures if local deformation of cross section occurred after the blast loads. Detailed finite element modeling of critical frame members is necessary to improve the accuracy of predicting the ultimate resistance of structures. The proposed approach is applied to study the ultimate behaviors of a steel column and a three-story steel frame under explosion and fire. 相似文献

试验用EH420钢(/%:0.20C,0.38Si,1.63Mn,0.007P,0.001S,0.062V,0.017Nb,0.009Ti,0.021Alt,0.38Ni,0.015Cu)20mm板的生产流程为210t BOF-LF-RH-230mm坯连铸-热轧。分别在室温、450、480、500、600℃对EH420钢进行了拉伸试验,并通过扫描电镜观察了拉伸试样断裂形貌和分析了断裂机理。结果表明,该钢室温屈服强度为443 MPa,480℃屈服强度270 MPa,基本为室温屈服强度2/3,因此EH420钢在480℃以下具有耐火性。 相似文献

This technical note presents the results from a nonlinear finite element analysis of a very simple two dimensional model of the World Trade Center Twin-Towers structural frame subjected to fire. The analysis was carried out for a large range of fire scenarios and was reported in detail in a recently published paper. The paper further investigates the results of this analysis to obtain the details of the collapse mechanism found. An interesting series of events leading progressively to overall collapse are discovered and described in detail. The main reason for the failure is found to be the low membrane capacity in compression of the composite steel truss and concrete deck slab floor system. 相似文献
