BER performance owing to random FM noise is investigated for QDPSK with postdetection selection diversity reception in a multiplicative Rayleigh fading environment. Experimental results for 16 Kbit/s QDPSK using a Rayleigh fading simulator are reported. It is shown that diversity reception can significantly reduce the impact of random FM noise.<>  相似文献

Postdetection selection diversity reception for Nyquist pulse shaped quadrature differential PSK (QDPSK) signal transmissions is addressed. Average bit error rate (BER) performance with differential and coherent demodulation is analysed for multiple-branch diversity reception under slow multipath Rayleigh fading. The bit error rate (BER) performance of 16-128 kb/s Nyquist raised-cosine filtered quaternary differential phase-shift keying (RC-QDPSK) signal transmission was experimentally investigated. Two-branch postdetection selection diversity reception was employed. Measured results are presented for the BER performance due to additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), cochannel interference, and multipath channel delay spread. Field BER measurements were also conducted at a carrier frequency of 1.45 GHz in an area characterized by high-rise buildings and in an area surrounded by mountains. The results show that postdetection selection diversity is a simple yet powerful technique to improve the BER performance in fading mobile radio channels  相似文献

Diversity reception using a postdetection maximal-ratio combiner (MRC) was experimentally investigated for pi /4-shift QDPSK signal transmission in Rayleigh fading environments. Two-branch postdetection MRC diversity reception provides a diversity gain, for a required E/sub b//N/sub 0/, of about 1.5 dB over selection diversity. It is also effective in reducing the impact of multipath channel delay spread. The average BER due to delay spread can be further reduced by a factor of about 1.5 times from selection diversity.<>  相似文献

An attractive modulation scheme, named accelerated phase-quaternary continuous phase modulation (AP-QCPM), is proposed for digital mobile radio applications. As AP-QCPM is a constant envelope modulation scheme, it is well suited to nonlinear power amplifier use in mobile equipment and handheld equipment of wireless LAN applications. The error performance of multilevel low-deviation frequency-shift keying (FSK) is severely degraded in the Rayleigh fading channel. On the other hand, the degradation of phase-shift keying (PSK) remains within a moderate amount. The paper is an attempt to clarify what kind of modification could be added to the conventional four-level FSK to achieve an error probability comparable with the QDPSK in the Rayleigh fading channel. The error probability of the proposed scheme and the power spectral characteristics are obtained to reveal critical values of the modification parameter. The analytical results are confirmed by the hardware simulation at 900 MHz  相似文献

The contribution of this paper is in applying parameter replacement techniques to speech that is compressed by the Federal Standard 1016 CELP speech coder, protected by Reed–Solomon codes, and transmitted over a wireless channel. The parameter replacement results in significant improvement in speech quality without any increase in bit rate. A field test has been made in order to better understand the digital mobile radio channel. At the mobile receiver (450 MHz, 1200 bits/s) recordings were made of the digital signal and the field strength. These recordings were later analyzed by a computer. Some existing models for digital channels have been tested. Theoretically motivated probability density functions for the fading envelope have also been considered. A new model for the digital channel is proposed. This model is a memoryless binary symmetric channel (BSC) with field strength dependent crossover error probability. Adaptive equalization for a TDMA (time-division multiple-access) digital cellular system is discussed. A survey of adaptive equalization techniques that includes their performance characteristics and limitations and their implementation complexity is presented. The design of adaptive equalization algorithms for a narrowband TDMA system is considered. It is concluded that, on the basis of implementation complexity and performance in the presence of multipath distortion and signal fading, MLSE (maximum-likelihood sequence estimation) and DFE (decision feedback equalization) are viable equalization methods for mobile radio  相似文献

An adaptive Viterbi algorithm, derived from a dynamic estimate of the fading channel is used for the decoding of a convolutional coded 16 QAM system in a mobile environment. The estimates are obtained by a sequence of known pilot symbols embedded in the data stream, and perform compensation for Rayleigh fading. The likelihood criterion in the Viterbi decoder is also modified by these channel estimates through a metric weighting function. We demonstrate through computer simulations, that our new technique achieves a BER improvement of 7-10 dB at Pe =10-3 in a fast flat Rayleigh fading environment compared to an uncoded system. The BER performance of our new technique in a co-channel interference (CCI) controlled environment is also studied, and the results show that it may achieve a 40% to 85% improvement in capacity over the standard modem scheme for the new US digital cellular system, π/4-QPSK  相似文献

Optimum combining in digital mobile radio with cochannel interference   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
This paper studies optimum signal combining for space diversity reception in cellular mobile radio systems. With optimum combining, the signals received by the antennas are weighted and combined to maximize the output signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio. Thus, with cochannel interference, space diversity is used not only to combat Rayleigh fading of the desired signal (as with maximal ratio combining) but also to reduce the power of interfering signals at the receiver. We use analytical and computer simulation techniques to determine the performance of optimum combining when the received desired and interfering signals are subject to Rayleigh fading. Results show that optimum combining is significantly better than maximal ratio combining even when the number of interferers is greater than the number of antennas. Results for typical cellular mobile radio systems show that optimum combining increases the output signal-to-interference ratio at the receiver by several decibels. Thus, systems can require fewer base station antennas and/or achieve increased channel capacity through greater frequency reuse. We also describe techniques for implementing optimum combining with least mean square (LMS) adaptive arrays.  相似文献

The authors investigate the bit error rate (BER) improvement of partial-response continuous-phase modulation (PRCPM) signals in mobile radio channels, when decision feedback equalization (DFE) to cancel the effect of intersymbol interference (ISI) of one adjacent bit is added to the limiter discriminator. A closed-form expression for the average probability of error as a function of the Doppler shift is derived for discriminator detection with decision feedback. In high-speed digital mobile radio communication, transmission performance is severely degraded by frequency-selective fading caused by the delay time spread of multipath propagation. Forward error correction (FEC) is one of the most effective techniques to improve transmission quality. The authors evaluate the effect of FEC on burst errors under frequency-selective fading. A device to simulate the channel propagation characteristics of the ground mobile environment at UHF has been designed, built, and characterized. This device provides a flexible, easily changed set of simulated channel characteristics, which allows the performance of a mobile radio unit to be evaluated in the laboratory under controlled conditions. The channel simulator was designed to simulate mobile platform speeds up to 675 mi/h and multipath components having differential delays approaching 10 µs. The channel simulator can provide up to four easily selectable, independently fading, multipath components, having calculated time delay spreads of up to 3.5 µs. The adjustable fading bandwidths and the exceptional long delays were implemented using the relative new signal processing technologies of charged-coupled devices and surface wave devices. Envelope statistics such as fading distributions and level crossing rates produced by the channel simulator show excellent agreement with theoretical prediction and documented experimental data.  相似文献

An instrument capable of simulating the multipath fading associated with VHF/UHF mobile radio channels is described. The implementation is simple, flexible, economical, and allows the fading waveforms to be repeated exactly. The control section, the quadrature modulator, and the method by which the simulator was tested are described. Measurements over a variety of urban and terrain conditions were made using a spread-spectrum waveform centered at 1370 MHz. Chip rates of 10 and 20 MHz were used, giving high time-delay resolution. The transmitter end of the measurement link was elevated and fixed while the receiver was mobile. A detailed analysis of the multipath structure was made for various terrain conditions. This included distributions of the number and spacing of individual multi-path components as a function of amplitude threshold and also distribution of total delay. Thresholds are referenced to both average signal level and the maximum level in each pulse interval. Some instances of spatial variation of the received signal are also presented.  相似文献

Spectral analysis is performed for a digital message produced by a variable-length encoder driven by a stationary memoryless source. In particular, closed form expressions are derived for both the continuous and the discrete part of the spectral density. The continuous part turns out to be a rational function ofz=exp (j2pi fT),whereTis the symbol period, whereas the discrete part exhibits in general spectral lines at multiple integers of(lambda_{0}T)^{-1}, wherelambda_{0}is the greatest common divisor of the codeword lengths. Wideband TDMA digital cellular mobile radio schemes can offer a capacity similar to that of analogue modulation schemes. To find the optimum coding to be used a balance must be made between bandwidth, power and number of channels. A comparison is made for an idealised system using QPSK transmission and biorthogonal coding. Coding with a bandwidth expansion of 2.7 is shown to provide a good capacity at low carrier/noise ratio and an acceptable error rate.  相似文献

Applications of direct frequency-conversion techniques have been rapidly getting attention of radio designers worldwide. This paper focuses on bringing out key implementation challenges of direct conversion receivers and transmitters targeted for different second- and third-generation mobile phone standards like global system for mobile communication, code division multiple access (cdmaOne and CDMA 2000), and wide-band code division multiple access. Techniques and tradeoffs to arrive at optimal implementation are highlighted.
