Heterogeneous decay of fluorine atoms

The probability of decay of fluorine atoms on the surface of molybdenum glass, quartz, Teflon, copper, nickel, gold and on aluminium alloy at 20–300 °C has been determined.

Crystallochemical Aspect of Phase Formation in the γ-FeOOH-H2O-NaOH System

Phase transition of metastable -FeOOH into -FeOOH and its chemical transformation into -Fe₂O₃ upon hydrothermal treatment in 0-5 M NaOH solutions at 100-230°C were studied. The regions of formation of the above phases were specified. The probable composition of the crystallizing complexes formed in the solutions and the reactions occurring at their incorporation into various atomically smooth faces of -FeOOH and -Fe₂O₃ were considered.     

Enthalpy of solution of carbohydrates using a modified differential scanning calorimeter

A differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) was modified for the determination of enthalpies of solution. The measurements were performed on aqueous solutions of the deoxy- and fluoro-deoxy derivatives of D-glucopyranose (Glu) where the OH group on the C1, C2, C3, and C6 is replaced by H (1HGlu, 2HGlu, 3HGlu, and 6HGlu) and by F (1FGlu, 2FGlu, 3FGlu, and 6FGlu), 4-deoxy 4-fluoro--D-glucopyranoside (4FGlu), 1-methoxy--D-glucopyranoside (MeOGlu), 1-phenoxy--D-glucopyranoside (PheOGlu), D-mannopyranose (Man), and 3-methoxy--D-glucopyranoside (3MeOGlu), at 15.1, 25.0, 35.0, and 45.1°C. The enthalpies of solution _sH⁰(T) ranged from 1.00±0.25 kJ-mol^–1 for 6HGlu at 15.1°C to 20.4±1.4 for PhOGlu at 45.1°C and were in good agreement with literature values for Man, Glu, MeOGlu, and 3MeOGlu at 25.0 and 35.0°C and for MeOMan and 2HGlu at 35.0°C. _sH⁰(T) for the derivatives were then extrapolated up to the melting temperature T_m and compared with their enthalpies of fusion, _fH also determined from DSC measurements. If the agreement between _sH⁰(T_m) and _fH was within the 95% confidence level, then it was concluded that intermolecular interactions between the carbohydrate molecules in the liquid phase were the same as between the carbohydrate and water molecules in the solution phase. This agreement was observed for aqueous solutions of Man, Glu, MeOGlu, 3HGlu, 3FGlu, and 6FGlu.     

Polyhydroxylated steroids from the starfishPatiria pectinifera

By chromatography on Polikhrom-1, silica gel, and Florisil, an ethanolic extract of the digestive organs of the starfishPatiria pectinifera has yielded the steroid polyols 5-cholestan-3,6,8,15,16,26-hexaol and 5-cholestan-3,4,6,7,8,15,16,26-octaol 6-(sodium sulfate). Steroid compounds of marine sponges. VII. Preparation of derivatives of sokotrasterol and halistanol sulfates and structure-activity interrelationships among these compounds

Five new sulfated derivatives of sokotrasterol and halistanol have been obtained: 24-nor-5-cholane-2,3,6,23-tetraol 2,3,6-tri(sodium sulfate); 24-nor-5-cholane-2,3,6,23-tetraol 2,3,6-tri(sodium sulfate) 23-palmitate; 24,25-dimethyl-5-cholestane-2,3,6-triol 3-(sodium sulfate); 24,25-dimethyl-5-cholestane-2,3,6-triol 6-(sodium sulfate); and 24,25-dimethyl-5-cholestane-2,3,6-triol 2,6-di(sodium sulfate). The inhibiting and membranolytic properties of the polysulfated steroids from sponges and their derivatives have been studied. Effect of preparation conditions on the properties of carbon-supported nickel catalysts

Carbon-supported Ni catalysts were prepared from nickel nitrate or chloride. Characterization was carried out by H₂ and CO chemisorption, XRD and TEM. Catalysts were further tested in the hydrogenolysis of n-butane.

FTIR studies of vitamin E-cholesterol-DPPC membrane interactions in CH 2 region

Binary and ternary mixtures of -tocopherol (T), cholesterol and dipalmitoyl phosphatidylcholine (DPPC) in the form of multilamellar liposomes have been investigated by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Investigation of frequencies, bandwidths and band shapes of CH₂ stretching and scissoring bands indicate that the effect of T is dominant in comparison with cholesterol and T decreases the interaction of cholesterol with phospholipid membranes.     

Decomposition of dimethyl sulfide in the presence of Al2O3, and catalyst deactivation

The catalytic decomposition of dimethyl sulfide has been studied over the temperature range of 400–500 °C. The main reaction products are methylmercaptane, H₂S and methane. Catalyst deactivation is due to its coking during the reaction. The possibility of oxidative catalyst regeneration at 550 °C has been shown.

Synthesis of α,α′-bisdialkylphosphonoisopropylnitroxyls

Amino acid and peptide derivatives of the indole series

Summary 1. A method for obtaining amino acid and peptide derivatives of -methyltryptamine have been described.2. In respect of their biological activity, the closest to Indopan are glycyl--methyltryptamine and L--glutamyl--methyltryptamine, which, at the same time, possess a weaker action on the peripheral adrenoreactive system.3. Kinetics of the vapor-phase oxidation of o-xylene over a vanadium oxide catalyst

The catalytic and adsorption properties of the (Pt–Sn)/Al₂O₃ system have been studied. The results of benzene hydrogenation, cyclohexane dehydrogenation and temperature-programmed hydrogen desorption show that the introduction of tin into the Pt/Al₂O₃ catalyst significantly changes the dispersity and electronic state of supported platinum.

From the leaves of Algerian ivyHedera canariensis Willd. (fam. Aralaceae) we have isolated 13 triterpene glycosides: the 3-O--L-arabinopyranosides of oleanolic acid (A), of echinocystic acid (B₁), and of hederagenin (B₂); the 3-O-[O--L-rhamnopyranosyl-(2)--L-arabinopyranoside]s of oleanolic acid (C), of echinocystic acid (D), and of hederagenin (E₁); the 3-O--L-rhamnopyranoside] 28-O-[O--L-rhamnopyranosyl-(14)--gentiobioside of hederagenin (G₁); the 3-O-[O--L-rhamnopyranosyl-(12)--L-arabinopyranoside] 28-O--gentiobioside of hederagenin (G3); the 3-O-[O--L-rhamnopyranosyl-(12)--L-arabinopyranoside] 28-O-[O--L-rhamnopyranosyl-(14)--gentiobioside]s of oleanolic acid (G₂), of echinocystic acid (H₁), and of hederagenin (H₂); the 3-O-[O--L-rhanmopyranosyl-(12)--D-glucopyranoside] 28-O-(O--L-rhamno-pyranosyl-(14)--gentiobioside] of hederagenin (H₂); and the 3-O-(O--L-rhamnopyranosyl-(12)-O-gentiobiosyl)-O-(14)--L-rhamnopyranosyl-(12)-a-L-arabinopyranoside] of hederagenin (G₄). Zusammenfassung Aus den entsprechenden -Bromestern werden durch Umsetzung mit Natriumnitrit die -Oximinodicarbonsäuredimethylester C₇ und C₉ und der , -Dioximinoazelainsäuredimethylester erhalten. -Methyladipinsäure wird zum Gemisch aus -Bromund -Bromester umgesetzt. Mit Natriumnitrit wird -Nitro-und -Oximino--methyladipinsäuredimethylester erhalten.

The -oximino dicarboxylic dimethyl esters of C₇ and C₉ and the , -dioximino azelaic acid dimethyl ester are received from the corresponding -bromo esters by reaction with sodium nitrite. -Methyladipic acid is reacted with bromine to a mixture of the -bromo and -bromo ester. Reaction with sodium nitrite gives the -nitro ester and the -oximino ester of -methyl adipic acid.

A further study of the substrate specificity in the reduction of 20-oxosteroids with a culture ofActinomyces roseochromogenus

Conclusions A culture ofActinomyces roseochromogenus ATCC 3347 reduces 17-hydroxy- and 16, 17-epoxy-20-oxopregnenes to the corresponding 20-alcohols, but is incapable of reducing 17-acetoxy-, 17-methyl-, and 16-methylprogesterones or 17-unsubstituted 20-oxopregnenes. The results obtained show that the presence of the side chain in a conformation favorable for the formation of 20-alcohols in the reduction of 20-oxosteroids with complex metal hydrides is in itself insufficient for the reduction of the 20-oxosteroids by a culture ofActinomyces roseochromogenus, which also reduces the 20-oxo group of 17-pregnenes.Khimiya Prirodnykh Soedinenii, Vol. 6, No. 1, pp. 38–47, 1970     

Electrochemical oxidation of tetramethyl esters of α,α,ω,ω-alcaneteracarboxylic acids

Cyclization of esters of butane-1,1,4,4- and pentane-1,1,5,5-tetracarboxylic acids during electrolysis in methanol in the presence of Nal produces, with a yield of 95%, the esters of cyclobutane-1,1,2,2- and cyclopentane-1,1,2,2-tetracarboxylic acids. Under similar conditions, esters of the highest ,,,-alkanetetracarboxylic acids undergo iodation and hydroxymethylation due to electrical oxidation of methanol to formaldehyde. During electrolysis in methanol in the presence of NaOAc, the esters of ,,,-alkanetetracarboxylic acids undergo effective hydroxymethylation, followed by cyclization into substituted five- and six-member lactones, or tetrahydrofurans when structurally possible.N. Some transformations of 3,4:3'2 tetrahydrofurano-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolines

Conclusions Under the action of KMnO₄ in acetone on derivatives of 3,43,2-tetrahydrofurano-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline, the nitrogen ring is dehydrogenated with a simultaneous opening of the furan ring, resulting in the formation of quinolylethyl alcohols. Hydrogenated furanoquinolines, containing the vinyl group in the 2-position, are oxidized to-quinolones in this case.     

Triterpene glycosides ofPatrinia scabiosofolia; II

Conclusions The triterpene glycosides scabiosides D, E, F, and G have been isolated from the roots ofPatrinia scabiosofolia Fisch. et Link. It has been established that scabioside D is O--D-glucopyranosyl-(1 4)-O--L-arabopyranosyl-(1 3)-O-oleanoloyl-(28 1)--D-xylopyranose, and scabioside E is O--D-glucopyranosyl-(1 4)-O--L-arabopyranosyl-(1 3)-O-oleanoloyl-(28 1)-O--D-xylopyranosyl-(4 1)--L-rhamnopyranose.

Several halomethyl-arylcarbinols were prepared, and the influence of substituents on enantiomer selectivity in the acetalisation reaction with [2S-(2,3a,4,7,7a)]-octahydro-7,8,8-trimethyl-4,7-methanobenzofuran-2-ol was examined.
