Eighteen wastewater treatment systems were operated for one year to investigate phosphorus (P) removal. Systems paired co-treatment reactors containing iron or calcium drinking water treatment residuals with vertical-flow constructed wetland mesocosms planted with Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani (K.C. Gmel.) Palla. For secondary municipal wastewater, soluble reactive P (SRP) concentrations were reduced from 0.70 to 0.03 mg L(-1) (95%) or 0.01 mg L(-1) (98%) by systems with the calcium or iron co-treatments, respectively (compared to 0.09 mg L(-1) or 87% by controls). Total P (TP) concentrations were reduced from 1.00 to 0.07 mg L(-1) (93%) and 0.05 mg L(-1) (95%) by the same treatments (compared to 0.16 mg L(-1) or 84% by controls). For anaerobically digested dairy wastewater, SRP was reduced from 7.68 to 6.43 mg L(-1) (16%) or 5.95 mg L(-1) (22%) by the systems with calcium or iron, respectively (compared to 7.37 mg L(-1) or 4% by controls). For this wastewater, the TP was reduced from 48.5 to 22.5 mg L(-1) (53%) and 22.7 mg L(-1) (53%) by the same treatments (compared to 24.1 mg L(-1) or 50% by controls) but performance improved substantially with a design modification tested.  相似文献

No single end-use has yet been identified that is capable of consuming the projected production of ochre (mainly iron (III) oxides) from mine drainage treatment. However, the high sorption capacity of ochre for phosphorus (up to 26 mg kg(-1)) means that it could be used in constructed wetlands to enhance phosphorus removal. Laboratory batch experiments showed that coarse-grained ochre removes 90% of all phosphorus forms from sewage effluent after 15 minutes of shaking. From a larger-scale experiment, it is estimated that constructed wetlands with an ochre substrate should remove phosphorus from sewage effluent for up to 200-300 years. The suitability of ochre for phosphorus removal is being investigated at the field scale in a wastewater constructed wetland (175 m2 area) in Berwickshire, UK. The hydraulic and treatment performance of the wetland were monitored for 15 months prior to installation at the inlet in November 2003 of a tank containing approximately 1200 kg ochre. Results so far show that improved hydraulic design is required for ochre to increase the mean phosphorus removal efficiency of the system (27 +/- 28%), but potentially toxic metals (Al, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb, Zn) have not been released from the ochre into the wetland outflow.  相似文献

Intensive use of phosphates has resulted in high P levels in surface waters and therefore eutrophication problems. Over the last decade many studies have revealed the advantage of using specific materials with efficient phosphorus retention capacities. Recent studies state that Ca materials are of particular interest for long-term retention of P, but can induce negative effects. To improve P retention and avoid negative counter-effects we tested the potential of natural apatites. Apatite sorption was evaluated using batch and open reactor experiments. Batch experiments identify sorption mechanisms and the influence of the ionic characteristics of the solution; open reactor experiments evaluate sorption capacities in relation to the ionic composition of the solution and biomass development. In parallel, observation of the material by electron microscopy was used to give more precision information about the mechanisms involved. This work reveals the strong chemical affinity between apatites and phosphorus. Compared to other calcareous materials apatite is better able to maintain low outlet P levels. After more than 550 days feeding, sorption was still present and low P outlet levels were still being obtained when sufficient contact time and calcium content in the solution were ensured. This work demonstrates the advantages of using apatites for phosphorus removal in constructed wetlands. The behaviour of apatite in phosphorus retention is explained and its suitability for use in such extensive systems defined.  相似文献

研究了以葡萄糖和乙酸钠为碳源的条件下,垂直流人工湿地对四环素(TC)、土霉素(OTC)和金霉素(CTC)等3种四环素类抗生素(TCs)的去除效果。结果表明,在试验条件下,乙酸钠与葡萄糖两种碳源均能有效促进人工湿地系统对3种TCs的去除;在相同碳源条件下COD质量浓度越高,TCs的去除率越高,当COD质量浓度大于400mg/L时,对3种TCs的去除率均达到90%以上;垂直流人工湿地对TCs的去除过程包括2个阶段:前2 h为湿地基质吸附作用下的快速去除阶段,2~24 h为缓慢去除阶段。乙酸钠与葡萄糖两种碳源对TCs去除率的提高,主要发生在2h之后的第二个阶段,分析认为发生了微生物共代谢作用,促进了湿地系统对基质吸附富集之后的TCs的进一步降解。  相似文献

This paper assesses the nitrogen and phosphorus removal efficiency of seven plant species (Schoenoplectus lacustris, Vetiveria zizanioides, Acorus calamus, Canna indica, Zizania latifolia, Phragmites communis, and Iris pseudacorus) commonly used in constructed wetland systems in southern China. The investigation considers two aspects that are relevant to determine nutrient removal efficiency: plants' biomass production and nutrient content in water effluent. Both assessments are correlated with each other. Three different hydraulic retention times with different nutrient loads have been applied in this ex-situ trial. The plants' biomass production correlates positively with the effluent's nutrient removal efficiency. Six out of seven species reviewed produce more biomass above ground than below ground (average: 67% of dried biomass in aerial part); only I. pseudacorus produces more biomass below ground. S. lacustris, V. zizanioides, I. pseudacorus, and C. indica have performed best in terms of nutrient removal efficiency (65.6-90.2% for nitrogen; 67.7-84.6% for phosphorus).  相似文献

A 45 m long, 4 m wide and 1 m deep wetland was constructed at Goudini in 2002 to treat distillery and winery effluent. After the plants were fully established, the wastewater with an average chemical oxygen demand (COD) of 14,000 mg/l was introduced to the wetland system at a rate of 4,050 litres per day. After treatment, wastewater at the outlet had an average COD of 500 mg/l, indicating more than 90% COD removal. After treatment, the wastewater was used to irrigate cash crops as part of poverty alleviation for farm workers. The experiment consisted of four treatment: clean irrigation water with fertilizer applied (B1); clean irrigation water without fertilizer applied (B2); wastewater irrigation with fertilizer applied (B3); and wastewater irrigation without fertilizer applied (B4). These were replicated seven times. Cabbage was cultivated as a cash crop. The results indicated that cabbage could be irrigated with winery wastewater treated by wetlands. The study found that there was significant difference between treatments that were fertilized compared with those that were not fertilized. The results indicated that wastewater irrigation improved the nutritional status of the soil.  相似文献

研究了水力负荷及季节变化对人工湿地强化净化五里湖湖水处理效率的影响因素,试验时间从2004年8月3日~2006年1月15日。研究表明,随水力负荷的增加,垂直流、潜流和自由表面流人工湿地的处理效率均呈下降趋势,尤以自由表面流人工湿地变化最为明显。对于五里湖水体,适宜的进水负荷为0.8m3/(m2·d)左右,此时垂直流、潜流人工湿地的TN和TP的去除效率均在50%以上。各人工湿地随季节的变化去除效率排序为夏季>秋季>春季>冬季。TP的去除率随季节变化相对比较平稳,TN次之,NH3-N、CODMn变化较大,冬季去除率下降尤为明显。  相似文献

This work focuses on the performance evaluation of two full-scale horizontal suburface flow constructed wetlands (H-SSF CWs) working in parallel, which have an almost equal surface area (about 2,000 m2) but with different operational lives: 8 and 3 years. Both H-SSF CWs, located in Southern Italy (Sicily), are used for tertiary treatment of the effluent of a conventional wastewater treatment plant. This study evaluates and compares H-SSF CW efficiency both in terms of water quality improvement (removal percentage) and achievement of Italian wastewater discharge and irrigation reuse limits. The mean removal percentage, for the overall operational life, of TSS, COD and BOD (80%, 63%, 58% obtained for H-SSF1 and 67%, 38%, 41% for H-SSF2), confirm the high reliability of CWs for wastewater treatment. However, despite the satisfactory removal of microbial indicators (the mean E. coli removal was up to 2.5 log unit for both beds), CWs didn't achieve the Italian limits for wastewater reuse. Information on hydraulic properties of the CWs were extracted from breakthrough curves of a non-reactive tracer (NaCl). By comparing the nominal (tau(n)) and actual residence time (tau), hydraulic behaviour was revealed.  相似文献

In South Sweden, free water surface wetlands have been built to treat wastewater from municipal wastewater treatment plants. Commonly, nitrogen removal has been the prime aim, though a significant removal of tot-P and BOD7 has been observed. In this study, performance data for 3-8 years from four large (20-28 ha) FWS wetlands have been evaluated. Two of them receive effluent from WWTP with only mechanical and chemical treatment. At the other two, the wastewater has also been treated biologically resulting in lower concentrations of BOD7 and NH4+-N. The wetlands performed satisfactorily and removed 0.7-1.5 ton N ha(-1) yr(-1) as an average for the time period investigated, with loads between 1.7 and 6.3 ton N ha(-1)yr(-1). Treatment capacity depended on the pre-treatment of the water, as reflected in the k20-values for N removal (first order area based model). In the wetlands with no biological pre-treatment, the k20-values were 0.61 and 1.1 m month(-1), whereas for the other two they were 1.7 and 2.5 m month(-1). P removal varied between 10 and 41 kg ha(-1) yr(-1), and was related to differences in loads, P speciation and to the internal cycling of P in the wetlands.  相似文献

This study was performed to evaluate the effects of the volume fraction of an anaerobic reactor (VFAR) and SRT on the removal of T-N and T-P in both an intermittently aerated system (IAS) and intermittently aerated dynamic-flow system (IADS), respectively. When the VFAR in the total volume of reactor from both IAS and IADS are 13%, 7%, and 0% at 5 days of SRT, the removal efficiencies of T-P were 80-87%, 62-65% and <30%, respectively. However, it was observed from this study that the removal efficiencies of T-N and T-P were not correlated to VFAR at a predetermined SRT, producing greater than 5000 mg/L of MLVSS. Also, IADS was shown to have the greater buffer capacity and adaptability to resist the shock due to the loading of high concentration of N. Furthermore, IADS achieved over 80% of removal efficiency of N even at much lower C/N ratio of 4.7. Therefore, it seems that IADS has the significant advantages over other biological nutrients removal processes.  相似文献

结合农村生活污水特点,分析人工湿地的去污机理以及存在问题,并对其进行技术经济分析,介绍人工湿地在国内外农村的应用情况。结果表明:技术上,人工湿地对有机物去除率较高,可达60%~99%,采用系统完善、组合湿地、联合其他工艺等改进方法后,人工湿地对氮磷有很好的去除效果;经济上,人工湿地投资运行费用远远低于传统工艺,经济可行性好。指出虽然人工湿地存在气温影响、系统堵塞、植物选择等问题,但作为一种在国外农村地区广泛成功应用的处理工艺,在我国农村具有很强的推广意义。  相似文献

Constructed wetlands (CWs) use the same processes that occur in natural wetlands to improve water quality and are used worldwide to treat different qualities of water. This paper shows the results of an Austrian research project having the main goals to optimize vertical flow beds in terms of surface area requirement and nutrient removal, respectively. It could be shown that a subsurface vertical flow constructed wetland (SSVFCW) operated with an organic load of 20 g COD x m(-2) x d(-1) (corresponding to a specific surface area demand of 4 m2 per person) can fulfil the requirements of the Austrian standard regarding effluent concentrations and removal efficiencies. During the warmer months (May - October), when the temperature of the effluent is higher than 12 degrees C, the specific surface area might be further reduced. Even 2 m2 per person have been proven to be adequate. Enhanced nitrogen removal of 58% could be achieved with a two-stage system (first stage: grain size for main layer 1-4 mm, saturated drainage layer; and second stage: grain size for main layer 0.06-4 mm, free drainage) that was operated with an organic load of 80 g COD x m(-2) x d(-1) for the first stage (1 m2 per person), i.e. 40 g COD x m(-2) x d(-1) for the two-stage system (2 m2 per person). Although the two-stage system was operated with higher organic loads a higher effluent quality compared to a single-stage SSVFCW (grain size for main layer 0.06-4 mm, free drainage, organic load 20 g COD x m(-2) x d(-1)) could be reached.  相似文献

A multi-stage municipal wastewater treatment system is proposed to comply with Mexican standards for discharge into receiving water bodies. The system is located in Santa Fe de la Laguna, Mexico, an area with a temperate climate. It was designed for 2,700 people equivalent (259.2 m3/d) and consists of a preliminary treatment, a septic tank as well as two modules operating in parallel, each consisting of a horizontal subsurface-flow wetland, a maturation pond and a vertical flow polishing wetland. After two years of operation, on-site research was performed. An efficient biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) (94-98%), chemical oxygen demand (91-93%), total suspended solids (93-97%), total Kjeldahl nitrogen (56-88%) and fecal coliform (4-5 logs) removal was obtained. Significant phosphorus removal was not accomplished in this study (25-52%). Evapotranspiration was measured in different treatment units. This study demonstrates that during the dry season wastewater treatment by this multi-stage system cannot comply with the limits established by Mexican standards for receiving water bodies type 'C'. However, it has demonstrated the system's potential for less restrictive uses such as agricultural irrigation, recreation and provides the opportunity for wastewater treatment in rural areas without electric energy.  相似文献

Removal of phosphorous in constructed wetlands is limited by the capacity of the media to adsorb, bind or precipitate the incoming P. To enhance P removal and the life span of constructed wetlands the approach might be to use natural sands rich in calcium or iron, to use an alternative 'artificial' medium with high P-binding capacity, or to establish external P-binding filters after the wetland. Our studies focused on the evaluation of calcium-rich materials potentially useful as P-binding media. The materials tested included calcite products, natural sands and seashells. Tests included assessment of physical and chemical properties of the materials, extractions in P-spiked water at different P concentrations to determine P-binding equilibrium isotherms, and column experiments. In addition, full-scale tests were performed with calcite in an external filter. The result showed that equilibrium isotherm is an indicator of the potential P-sorption capacity of the media, although the value is of limited application for the determination of the binding capacity in full-scale systems. The columns showed that the materials do bind phosphorus. However, the binding capacities are still insufficient for the establishment of external P-removal filter; the volumes of the filters would be too large to be of practical use.  相似文献

Growth in urban population,urbanisation,and economic development has increased the demand for water,especially in water-scarce regions.Therefore,sustainable approaches to water management are needed to cope with the effects of the urbanisation on the water environment.This study aimed to design novel configurations of tidal-flow vertical subsurface flow constructed wetlands(VFCWs) for treating urban stormwater.A series of laboratory experiments were conducted with semi-synthetic influent stormwater to examine the effects of the design and operation variables on the performance of the VFCWs and to identify optimal design and operational strategies,as well as maintenance requirements.The results show that the VFCWs can significantly reduce pollutants in urban stormwater,and that pollutant removal was related to specific VFCW designs.Models based on the artificial neural network(ANN) method were built using inputs derived from data exploratory techniques,such as analysis of variance(ANOVA) and principal component analysis(PCA).It was found that PCA reduced the dimensionality of input variables obtained from different experimental design conditions.The results show a satisfactory generalisation for predicting nitrogen and phosphorus removal with fewer variable inputs,indicating that monitoring costs and time can be reduced.  相似文献

通过静态试验,研究了钢渣对模拟选矿废水中总磷的去除及机理。探讨了影响其除磷的因素如温度、接触时间、pH、钢渣粒径、钢渣用量、磷的初始浓度等。结果表明,钢渣有很好的除磷效果。当模拟选矿废水的初始pH=7时,初始总磷浓度为50mg/L,投入足量(4g钢渣/L废水),粒径为140目的钢渣,钢渣对总磷的去除率可达到99%以上,钢渣对磷的平衡吸附量最大达到22.16mg/g。其吸附规律符合Freundlich经验公式,钢渣除磷的方式主要包括物理吸附和化学沉淀作用,当废水pH7时,钢渣对磷的除去作用以化学沉淀作用为主。  相似文献
