Abstract:With the increase of the incidence of myopia, myopia has become one of the main problems affecting the health of our society. Myopia is an environmental or genetic factor that causes abnormal visual information to act on the retina, which is formed by retinal pigment epithelial-choroidal signal transduction, which ultimately acts on the sclera and initiates scleral remodeling. Dietary factors have received little attention, but high glucose is reported that it is one of the risk factors for myopia. Long-term high glucose intake leads to elevated blood sugar, insulin, decreased glucagon, and induced chronic hyperinsulinemia. Chronic hyperinsulinemia affects the level of the insulin-like growth factor-1 and insulin-like binding protein-3, which can affect the progression of myopia. This article reviews the relationship between high-glucose diet and myopia-related signaling pathways and explores the underlying molecular mechanisms that influence myopia progression.
