A review of the purification function of river filtration process to contaminated river water

A river filtration system makes use of the self-purification capacity of the water and soil environment. As a result, the efficiency of wastewater treatment is enlarged and groundwater and soil can be protected from pollution. The river filtration is a natural process and has many advantages. It is a natural filter and a biochemoreactor. It can remove a variety of contaminants present in the river water, such as natural organic matter, synthetic organic compounds, inorganic matter, bacteria, pathogens, etc. This paper analyzes factors influencing the purification function of the river filtration system, including components of river sediment, configuration of the river filtration system, seasons, and other conditions. Further research directions of a river fihration system are also presented.
