Abstract:Objective To explore the functional connectivity difference of the brain-mirrored regions in first-episode medication-naive major depressive disorder (MDD) patients. Methods Twenty-seven patients with first-episode medication-naive MDD (MDD group) and 21 healthy controls (control group) underwent MRI and rest-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI).The data of rs-fMRI were analyzed using Voxel-mirrored homotopic connectivity (VMHC),and the correlation between VMHC values and the Hamilton depression scale (HAMD) scores in MDD subjects was investigated. Results Compared with control group,VMHCs of the bilateral superior frontal gyrus, posterior cingulates and lingual gyrus increased in MDD group. No significant correlation between the VMHC values and the HAMD scores was found. Conclusion Increased interhemispheric functional connectivity in many brain area may provide a new perspective in understanding the physiopathologic mechanism of MDD.
Keywords:Depressive disorder  Magnetic resonance imaging  Voxel-mirrored homotopic connectivity
