Abstract: | Abstract Nalidixic acid (l-ethyl-7-methyl-4-oxo-l,8-naphthryridine-3-carboxylic acid), a synthetic antibacterial agent, has been assayed in tablets and pediatic suspensions (Negram®) by the application of PMR spectrometry. The proposed method involves comparing the integral of the methyl group protons at 2.56 ppm to that of the singlet of a known amount of hexamethylcyclotrisilazane at 0.00 ppm, used as internal standard. The method is simple, rapid and accurate. The average recovery, of nalidixic acid from its tablets and its suspension form are 99.94. ± 1.47 and 98.58% ± 1.95 respectively. |
