| Abstract: | Calculating free point of sticking drill pipe is necessary for handling sticking accidents. The current formulas for sticking point neglecting the influence of the tool's joint and upset on the calculation have an error to about 40m per 1000m and fail to satisfy better the needs for well drilling. In this paper, based on the Hooke's law, the above factors affecting the calculation accuracy is analysed and a correction for the current formulas is proposed. The correction coefficient derived for drill pipes used in our country, is about 1.035. The corrected formula, by trial computation, demonstrates its convenience to use. |
