在古代建筑和城市号观的实物遗存越来越少的今天，要求我们最大限度地利用传统绘画来研究传统的城市。通过绘画解读来研究传统的建筑与景观，将成为建筑史研究的一个重要内容。该文在介绍《盛世滋生图》的概要的基础上，通过考察建筑和景观描绘的精确性，和清代苏州的城市背号的一致性，和清朝苏州城市地图的一致性及与历史资料记载的一致性这4个方面，论证了《盛世滋生图》的资料性，为系统解读描绘的建筑和景观奠定了研究基础。
