Abstract:To improve the quality of experience(QoE)and the device battery life of mobile streaming media,a QoE model based on the battery state of the mobile device was proposed.The parameters of the model included initial delay,re-buffering events,average video quality,smoothness of bitrate switching,and device battery status.On the basis of the model,a bitrate adaptation strategy based on network throughput while considering the battery status of the device was given.The strategy avoided the client from requesting a high bitrate video when the remaining battery of the device was in a medium or low state,causing excessive battery consumption.Experimental results show that the proposed strategy can effectively balance the user’s needs for video quality and device battery life under different battery states.
