Bolt Tightening Methods and Preload Control

Bolted flanged joints are the main static seal structures used in equipment in petrochemical industry. During the maintenance, the selected bolt tightening method and accurate preload control are very important to the safety of equipment in service. This paper deals with the principle of bolt tightening methods, such as torque, rotation angle and hydraulic stretch. Some preload control means and their precision were discussed.
