On environment and strategies for Yangkou Port development in early 21st century

An introduction is given to the geographic location and natural condition of the Yangkou Port to be built in Nantong City and an analysis is made on the development environment and advantages of the Yangkou Port and the state of surrounding ports. The functions of the Yankou Port are clarified: acting as a service port mainly for the direct hinterland of north Jiangsu Province, developing the container transport and feeder line transport, improving the functions of goods wharf and bulk transport, giving play to the functions as a transshipment port and an auxiliary port of the Shanghai International Shipping Center, so that it can occupy an important position in the ports of the Yangtze River Delta and become a modernized comprehensive port. It is also suggested that the construction of the port should be accelerated so as to promote the sustainable development of Jiangsu economy.
