Experience with steel reinforced concrete penstocks in former Russia

In former Russia, a systematic experimental research, theoretical analysis and design calculation to the composite steel-reinforced concrete penstock had been conducted since the middle of 1960's, and the design criteria, revised design standards and specifications were provided and extensive experiences had been obtained. In order to seek to secure the experiences with design and construction, the China Three Gorges Project Corporation invited experts from Russia for giving their recommendations and for re-checking the calculation of the penstocks for the Three Gorges station with the Russian criteria, to optimize the design of the Three Gorges penstocks.
