Abstract:Lossless compression should be made to the infrared image sequences due to the limited wireless bandwidth and considering the unique feature of the infrared image sequences.By comparing the compression performance and hardware implementation complexity of the algorithms of JPEG 2000,SPIHT,JPEG+DPCM and JPEG_LS,JPEG_LS was selected as the core compression algorithm for its optimal performance and easy implementation,and DSP and FPGA was used as the core of hardware platform.To verify the feasibility of the system,infrared images were acquired by the FPGA,and then transferred to DSP by SRIO.The optimized JPEG_LS was used for compressing the data of the infrared image from the FPGA.Finally,the compressed image data was transmitted to PC through EMAC and displayed in real time.Experimental results show that the system is stable and reliable,which can implement lossless compression for data from infrared camera in real-time and can satisfy the practical engineering requirement.
