Abstract: | Defamation means the ruin of reputation, and the law intended to protect reputation from being ruined is internationally called libel law. In China, libel law is called law on the right of reputation. Libel law was first born in Britain. After the Opium War (1839-1842), the British occupied Hong Kong, and transplanted British law into Hong Kong. On July 1, 1997, China resumed the exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong, and has applied the policy of One Country, Two Systems on the region. Under this policy, the previous laws in Hong Kong have basically remained unchanged, and the British common law traditions that were in place in Hong Kong for more than 100 years have been maintained on a continued basis. |
