Abstract:Perchlorate (ClO4-) is a new emerging persistent pollutant, and its related environmental problems cause a great concern. Due to many anthropogenic and natural sources, ClO4- is widespread in soil and groundwater environments. Control and restoration of ClO4--contaminated environments become a new research focus. Phyto-microbial remediation is the most promising technology to abate ClO4- pollution, but few researches were reported in China. This paper reviews phyto-microbial remediation of ClO4--contaminated soil and groundwater and its influential factors with 86 references. The phytoremediation mechanism for ClO4- is illustrated from phytoextraction, phytodegradation, and rhizodegradation. To elucidate the combined effect of phyto-microbial remediation, plant rhizodegradation is discussed on microbial metabolic pathway, and the effects of exogenous additives and environmental conditions. The research trends and currently existing problems are prospected.
