Key Issues in Degree Thesis Writing -- Discussion on the Methods and Routes of Research in Social Sciences

In light of some key issues in thesis writing, this paper makes an in-depth analysis on the basic methods and routes of research in social sciences. When combining Western theory and Chinese experience, the researcher should not rely on the Western theory blindly but take an academic route with a correct theoretical awareness. In performing studies, the researcher should adopt quantitative and qualitative approaches wisely. In conducting field studies, the researcher needs to integrate the upward and downward routes practically according to specific conditions. For material collection, literature reviews, observations and interviews may be used selectively or jointly. Material analysis should be made objectively to enable small samples to reflect the big picture. When writing a degree thesis, the researcher should be prepared to go through a process of repeated theme adiustment and reestablishment.
