| Abstract: | Based on the result of field investigations and laboratory studies, it was found the food of Noctiluca scintillans mainly composited by phytoplankton with limited detris, micro-zooplankton and eggs. The mean digestion time of various food particles is 4.5+2.4hrs. The feeding of this organism showed remarkely diurnal rhythms with two peaks which is expressed as follows by calculated from time series regression: yt=43.7+0.49y(1-1)-0.14y(t-2)-0.30y(t-3)-0.34y(t-4)-0.20y(t-5)(R=0.945, F=9.3649~(**), P=5). Vegetative reproduction showed also twice a day but occurred at night. |
