Abstract:Considering the coal pyrolysis as its functional groups thermal decomposition, we founded the functional-group pyrolysis model. The model pointed out that the aliphatic-CH decomposition is the competition process between tar and CH4 forming reaction, and CO2, CO and H2O evolve from carboxyl, ether and hydroxyl groups. All reactions are described by a large number of first order parallel reactions having a Gaussian distribution of activation energies. This model gave a good explanation of the relation between thermal decomposition products and functional groups of coal, and the whole process of coal pyrolysis was described thoroughly by this model.
