Abstract:The thermal runaway characteristic parameters of Li-ion battery with three kinds of high nickel ternary cathode materialsLi(Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1)O2(NCM811),Li(Ni0.5Co0.2Mn 0.3)O2(NCM523)and Li(Ni0.8Co0.15 Al0.5)O2(NCA)]in 100%state of charge(SOC)were studied.Three sets of repetitive tests were carried out.The start temperature of exothermic reactions(θ1),onset temperature of thermal runaway(θ2),maximum exothermic temperature(θ3)and temperature rise rate at the same temperature point were compared.The averageθ1 of NCM811 and NCM523 battery were 18.78℃and 12.19℃higher than NCA battery(82.15℃),respectively.The averageθ2 of NCM523 and NCA battery were 11.42℃and 3.08℃higher than NCM811 battery(148.75℃),respectively.The averageθ3 of NCM811 and NCA battery were84.80℃and 74.82℃higher than NCM523 battery(560.18℃),respectively.The average maximum temperature rise rate of NCM811 and NCA battery were 176.13℃/min and 143.85℃/min higher than NCM523 battery(387.27℃/min),respectively.The thermal safety of NCM523 battery was the highest,the thermal safety of NCM811 battery and NCA battery were similar.
