Popperian Philosophy and Economic Methodology

Popperian philosophy, Popper' s falsificationism and Lakatos' s ' methodology of scientific research programs in particular', has great impact on contemporary western economic methodology. However, the problems facing the advice on methodology offered to economists show, while economists may benefit from the influence of Popperian philosophy in some ways, neither Popper's falsificationism nor Lakatos's methodology provides an appropriate guide to the acceptance or rejection of economic theories.
