Progress in the research of antituberculous drugs(I)

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease worldwide with high morbidity and mortality, largely owing to persistence of tubercle bacillus and inadequacy of the current chemotherapy. The increasing emergence of drug-resistant tuberculosis along with the HIV pandemic threatens the disease control, and highlights both the need to understand how our current drugs work and the need to develop new and more effective drugs. In this review, we presented novel agents with potential for the treatment of tuberculosis, which through natural product screening, design and synthesis of new drugs and structure modification of antituberculous agents; we also described advance in molecular biology of tuberculosis and the development of antituberculous targets.
