Diagnosis and treatment of 12 eases of solid pseudopapillary tumors of the pancreas

Objective To summarize the experience of the diagnosis and treatment of solid pseu- dopapillary tumors of the pancreas（SPTP）. Methods The clinical data of 12 cases of SPTP from June 2003 to January 2010 in General Hospital of Jinan Military were retrospectively analyzed. Results Median age of the 12 cases was 29 years,including 10 females and 2 males. Six cases were definitely diagnosed preoperatively. Surgical procedures were performed, including pancreaticoduodenectomy in 1 patient,removal of tumors within capsule in 5 cases, and distal pancreatectomy in 6 cases（added with splenectomy in 4 cases）. Patrents were followed up for 3 to 78 months. One case developed liver metastases, and the remaining obtained satisfactory outcome. Conclusion It is difficult to diagnose SPTP preoperatively. The cystic and solid lesions of the pancreas in young females should be doubted as SPTP firstly. Radical resection of SPTP can get a good prognosis. Removal of tumors within capsule is an alternative procedure to treat SPTP.
