Constructing a Theory and Writing a Thesis: Some Metatheoretical Considerations

Being a theory which is designed to study other theories, a given metatheory can provide theoretical guidance to the construction of a particular theory; hence it is considered to be a theory of a higher order. The present article attempts to offer some ideas relevant to the construction of a metatheory for translation studies by capitalizing on the general principles of metatheories generated in humanities. It is believed that the generalizations we come up with shall be of help to translation studies, translation teaching and the writing of dissertations by graduate students.
