Acoustic variable density logging in cased wells records the received full acoustic waveform varying with time which can be used to check the cementing quality and fracturing effect and to extract longitudinal wave data which can reflect formation porosity and transverse wave data which can reflect formation rock strength. Its specific characteristics through casing logging provide certain technical approaches to survey dAtA as supplementary, to check fracturing effect and dynamic variation of the formation porosity in development wells. This paper introduces the development status, principle of data interpretation and some cases of its application in Jianghan oilfield. It also gives out the technical superiority and limitations.
