Abstract:Through the comparison of two modified multipoint geostatistics (MPS) methods, namely, the skeleton - based multiple point geostatistics (SMPS) modeling method and the random walk - based multiple - point geostatistics (RMPS) modeling method, the advantage and disadvantage of the two methods and their application scope were identified. Research results indicate that the common point of the two methods is to generate fluvial mainstream with the object - based modeling method and restrain multiple point events by using data of the fluvial mainstream. The differences between two methods are the generating mode of the fluvial mainstream and the application range of the two methods. The SMPS modeling method generates the fluvial mainstream by adopting the search - window method and is suitable for well areas having lower well spacing density. However, the RMPS modeling method creates the fluvial mainstream through the random walk process and is suitable for well areas having higher well spacing density. On this basis, we put forward that the multi- ple point geostatistcs method can be improved in terms of integrated geological knowledge and algorithm itself.
Keywords:multiple - point geostatistics  reservoir skeleton  random walk  fluvial mainstream
