A Review on Benefits and Harmfulness of Spartina anglica in Coastal China

Spartina anglica CE Hubbard is an exotic plant species introduced into China's coastal areas, which has arisen a debate in recent years on its positive or negative effect. The biological characteristics of this species and its benefits and detriments observed in different locations in China were reviewed. It is suggested that this plant introduced be used as a raw material for various purposes and that potential natural enemies be sought to bring this plant species under control. Strict feasibility study must be enforced before any new introduction of exotic plants into China to minimize intrusion troubles.
