Research on Expression of Telomerase hTERT mRNA in the Carcinogenesis of Oral Precancerous Lesion

Objective To investigate the expression of telomerase hTERTmRNA in oral precancerous and sequamous cell carcinoma( SCC). Methods Expressions of telomerase hTERTmRNA in 22 cases of SCC, 20 cases of oral precancerous lesions(dysplasia lesion), 4 cases of hy-perplasia lesions and 4 cases of normal oral mucosa were examined. Results A weaker signal of hTERT mRNA expression was observed in normal oral mucosa and hyperplasia lesions. Positive cells were present in basal layer and hTERT mRNA positivity was 12. 5% (1/8). The positive cells of hTERT mRNA in the precancerous lesions extended from basal layer to multi-layered epithelium. The hTERT mRNA positivity was 45% (9/20). Strong hTERT mRNA expression was observed in SCC and its positivity was 81.18% (18/22). Conclusion The hTERT activity played an important role in the carcinogenesis of oral precancerous lesions. The hTERT positive rate was related to cell differentiation.
