Abstract:Dmrt is a gene family in vertebrates, which are homologous genes with Doublesex inDrosophila melanogaster and Matt3 in Caenorhabditis elegans. The characteristics of genes and proteins of Dmrt members were expounded in this review respectively. Analysis of the expression of the development in various vertebrates of showed the Dmrt genes are mainly involved in sex determination and gonad differentiation, and also associated with the development of certain non gonadal tissues and organs: Dmrt is mainly involved in testis differentiation, but sometimes also relevant to ovarian development; Dmrt2 is mainly involved in somitogenesis, differentiation and formation of asymmetric organs; Draft3, 4, 5 can jointly or sequentially regulate the development of olfactory organs and brain;Dmrt7 is required for male gametogenesis; Draft8 isa male-biased expressiongene. Dmrt7 plays different roles in the genetic sex de termination pathway among various vertebrates, varying in its position and functional locus.
