Validating a computerized scoring system for assessing writing and placing students in composition courses

How do scores from writing samples generated by computerized essay scorers compare to those generated by “untrained” human scorers and what combination of scores, if any, is more accurate at placing students in composition courses? This study endeavored to answer this two-part question by evaluating the correspondence between writing sample scores generated by the IntelliMetric™ automated scoring system and scores generated by University Preparation English faculty, as well as examining the predictive validity of both the automated and human scores. The results revealed significant correlations between the faculty scores and the IntelliMetric™ scores of the ACCUPLACER™ OnLine WritePlacer Plus test. Moreover, logistic regression models that utilized the IntelliMetric™ scores and average faculty scores were more accurate at placing students (77% overall correct placement rate) than were models incorporating only the average faculty score or the IntelliMetric™ scores.

世界优秀男子网球选手硬地比赛发球直接得分率与发球落点特征分析

论文运用文献资料法、录像观察统计法、比较分析法等研究方法对8名世界优秀男子网球选手在2011年和2010年澳大利亚网球公开赛以及2010年美国网球公开赛中的20场比赛的ACE球出现率和发球直接得分率与发球落点的关系进行分析,找出世界男子职业网球选手硬地比赛中发球直接得分率与发球落点的关系特征。     

大学英语分级教学对英语选修课的启示

非英语专业学生英语文化通识基础较弱,为此类选修课的开设带来了很大不便,但在大学英语分级教学模式中可以得到启示,从课程设置、课堂教学、课下兴趣活动、学生成绩考核和教师自身文化通识修养的加强中得到相应借鉴,从而夯实学生的英语文化通识基础,为将来的认识发展提供条件。     

一种基于最小价值度优先的集成电路布图规划和布局算法

平面布局的自动化是CAD领域的研究方向之一，旨在为工程设计师提供智能辅助工具，用以求解大在规模集成电路，产品包装，集装箱运输等若干领域中出现的空间布局问题，本文针对一类特定集成电路空间布局问题提出了中心线贴边动作和占角动作的思想和相应的基于最小价值度优化（LVFP）的算法，实验表明，在多数情况下，这一算法可以快速得到比较好的计算结果。     

Role mobilisateur du mandat d'autorite et du placement dans l'intervention sociale pour les enfants maltraites

Après l'étude clinique de 22 cas d'intervention sociale à domicile, l'auteur rend compte des réflexions théoriques que ce type d'intervention lui a suggérées. En premier lieu, il a constaté que le comportement de mauvais traitements à enfant était lié à des problématiques aussi diverses qu'un conflit conjugal, des liens affectifs pervers, ou encore une relation à caractère psychotique: Il est donc impossible de dégager à posteriori une “ligne directive unique” dans l'aide apportée à ces familles. Ensuite, il a observé que le rôle mobilisateur de ces interventions était étroitement lié au mandat d'autorité dont le travailleur social était investi et à la possibilité qu'il détenait de demander un placement de l'enfant maltraité. Il en conclut que l'efficacité de ces moyens dépendait autant de la problématique propre à chaque famille que de l'adaptation technique que le travailleur social pouvait en faire dans sa relation avec elle.     

Hierarchical planning for a surface mounting machine placement

For a surface mounting machine(SMM)in printed circuit board(PCB)assembly line,there are four problems,e.g. CAD data conversion,nozzle selection,feeder assignment and placement sequence determination. A hierarchical planning for them to maximize the throughput rate of an SMM is presented here. To minimize set-up time,a CAD data conversion system was first applied that could automatically generate the data for machine placement from CAD design data files. Then an effective nozzle selection approach was implemented to minimize the time of nozzle changing. And then,to minimize picking time,an algorithm for feeder assignment was used to make picking multiple components simultaneously as much as possible. Finally,in order to shorten pick-and-place time,a heuristic algorithm was used to determine optimal component placement sequence according to the decided feeder positions. Experiments were conducted on a four head SMM.The experimental results were used to analyse the assembly line performance.     

Inclusion Illusion: Questioning the Inclusiveness of Integrated Physical Education

ABSTRACT

Globally, integrated school placements as well as inclusion as an education philosophy have emerged as influential trends in education over the past 30 years. Although used interchangeably at times, inclusion and integration are distinct. Confusion about inclusion and integration can lead to mixed messages, which oftentimes affect the education of students with disabilities in school-based physical education. The purposes of this article are twofold. First, the author will provide a brief narrative to clarify the distinction between inclusion as a philosophy and integration as a placement. Second, the author will examine whether empirical data support integrated physical education placements as being inclusive. Existing literature examining the embodied perspectives of students with disabilities, as well as previously unpublished non-fiction reflections from one man with a visual impairment, are utilized to guide the conversation about whether integrated physical education settings are providing inclusive experiences.     

培养更好的学习者——从大学先修课程看高中学业评价

如何改变高中学业评价制度的单一化,使有需要的学生有更多的学习选择,进而培养更好的学习者是现阶段我国教育领域深化改革进程中的重中之重,也符合当前各国高中学业评价的理论转向与实践探索。在这方面,美国AP课程学生学业评价为我国建立先修课程考评体系提供了参考。而成立专门的负责机构;大学是否可以让学生免修并承认学分;建立多元评价机制是当前我国先修课程考核体系的建设中亟待解决的三个问题。
