The possibility of realistic prediction of two-layer subgrade load-settlement characteristics is discussed. The case of improvement of the soft subgrade properties using the geosynthetic reinforcement placed at the boundary between two different subgrade layers is analysed. In the first part of the paper, a short review of the main conclusions from experimental results dealing with the influence of geosynthetic reinforcement on the load-settlement characteristics of subgrade is presented. Then, the results of using the selected analytical membrane-action model to describe the reinforcement action in soil are discussed. The model is verified on the basis of data obtained from previously published laboratory tests. Particular attention is devoted to influencing some basic initial parameters on the accuracy of obtained results. Important problems which need intensive investigations are identified.  相似文献

A laboratory investigation was conducted to evaluate the fatigue behavior of an alternative pavement foundation material containing cement stabilized reclaimed crushed aggregate. Class C fly ash, and waste-plastic strip [high density polyethylene (HDPE)] reinforcement. The primary motivation for this research was to evaluate a composite that contained more than 90% recycled materials for use as an alternative foundation layer underneath conventional flexible or rigid pavement. The specific objectives of this study were (1) to evaluate the flexural fatigue behavior of the new composite, and (2) to evaluate the accumulation of fatigue damage in the material. The results indicate that the fatigue resistance of this material is similar to other traditional stabilized pavement materials. It was found that the dynamic elastic modulus remained approximately constant (degraded slowly) for most specimens up to the end of fatigue life. Fatigue damage computed using a dissipated energy approach showed that the damage accumulation in this material approximately follows Miner's rule for cumulative damage, which is often used in pavement engineering.  相似文献

Contaminated dredged material is often placed in confined disposal facilities (CDFs) designed and managed to control environmental impacts of the disposed sediment. This note presents equations for use in a screening procedure to evaluate the impact of a CDF on groundwater. The hydrologic evaluation of leachate production and quality model was used to simulate leachate production and transport through the foundation considering a range of foundation soil characteristics and contaminant properties. The model results were used to develop predictive equations of contaminant attenuation and travel time in the foundation soils. When used with equations to predict dispersion in the aquifer, contaminant exposures at receptor locations can be predicted, which is essential in leachate screening applications. The approach does not consider degradation or permanent sequestration of contaminants. Therefore, the procedure is conservative in that it may overestimate actual leachate concentrations and underestimate actual travel times.  相似文献

This paper presents an analytical solution for the consolidation of soft soil foundations reinforced by stone columns under time-dependent loadings. The differential equations of the foundations reinforced by stone columns are obtained including smear and well resistance under arbitrary applied loadings. The closed-form solutions of pore pressure and the overall average degree of consolidations are obtained for some common types of loadings, such as step loading, ramp loading, and cyclic trapezoidal loading. By solving the equations using a semianalytical method, the comparisons agree very well with the existing analytical solutions, which verify the correctness and accuracy of the proposed methods. Using the solutions obtained, some selected charts are presented and the relevant consolidation behavior is investigated and discussed.  相似文献

A matrix formulation to determine the coupled response of rigid foundations where soil properties are modeled by springs and dashpots is presented. Location and orientation of springs and dashpots can be arbitrary, thus a general solution is determined. The response is given in terms of translational and rotational displacements considering coupled effects. Physics of the problem presented here has been extensively studied and a broad range of useful formulae to determine springs and dashpots properties for soil-structure interaction is available. These published formulae for springs and dashpots properties are an input to the approach presented. Thus, the novelty of this approach is a matrix manipulation that leads to a simple expression allowing coupling all degrees of freedom even when springs and dashpots are not orthogonally oriented. For validation purposes, finite element solutions are compared with the approach presented.  相似文献

The paper presents a case study for numerical analysis of the consolidation behavior of an instrumented trial embankment constructed on a soft soil foundation. Details are given to the geological profile, field instrumentation, laboratory test results, and determination of soil parameters for numerical modeling. Embankment settlement is estimated based on one-dimensional consolidation analysis and nonlinear finite-element analysis following Biot’s consolidation theory. Finite-element results are calibrated against the measured field data for a period of more than 3?years. Development and dissipation of excess pore pressure, long-term settlement, and horizontal displacement are predicted and discussed in light of sensitivity of embankment performance to some critical factors through a parametric study.  相似文献

This paper investigates the reduction of vibration due to the foundation slab both in horizontal and vertical directions. Similar reduction efficiency of the foundation slab was obtained among three-dimensional finite element analyses, field experiments, and the averaging scheme of the rigid slab theory. Then, two formulas fitted from numerical simulations were generated. Using those two simple formulas, one can estimate the reduction efficiency of horizontal and vertical vibrations due to foundation slabs. In summary, a suitable mat foundation can significantly reduce the horizontal vibration transformed from soil. The reduction efficiency depends on the size of the mat foundation over the soil wavelength. Enlarging the thickness of the foundation slab can decrease the vertical vibration transferred from soils. However, it is difficult to reduce vertical low-frequency vibrations for a reasonable slab thickness.  相似文献

Semiotics is considered fundamental to an understanding of human–computer interaction, and of all computer artifacts. Informatics should therefore be viewed as technical semiotics (or semiotics engineering). In particular, interaction between human and computer is characterized by features of communication, a sort of communication, however, that lacks decisive communicative features. It must be identified as a process of pseudo-communication. Interaction is viewed as the coupling of two autonomous processes: a sign process (carried out by the human user) and a signal process (carried out by the computer). Software appears as a semiotic entity in a duplicate way: calculated and calculating, i.e. both as a result and agent of calculations. This dialectics characterizes the class of signs on the computer medium. Problems of software design (functionality and usability design) are specific problems of the coupling of sign and signal processes.  相似文献
