This study examined commercial talc deposits in the U.S. and their amphibole-asbestos content. The study found that the talc-forming environment directly influenced the amphibole and amphibole-asbestos content of the talc deposit. Large talc districts in the U.S. have mined hydrothermal talcs that replaced dolostone. Hydrothermal talcs, created by siliceous fluids heated by magmas at depth, consistently lack amphiboles as accessory minerals. In contrast, mineable talc deposits that formed by contact or regional metamorphism consistently contain amphiboles, locally as asbestiform varieties. Examples of contact metamorphic deposits occur in Death Valley, California; these talc-tremolite deposits contain accessory amphibole-asbestos. Talc bodies formed by regional metamorphism always contain amphiboles, which display a variety of compositions and habits, including asbestiform. Some industrial mineral deposits are under scrutiny as potential sources of accessory asbestos minerals. Recognizing consistent relations between the talc-forming environment and amphibole-asbestos content may be used in prioritizing remediation or monitoring of abandoned and active talc mines.  相似文献

Talc deposits of Rema area in the Kumaun Inner Lesser Himalaya are hosted within high magnesium carbonates of the Proterozoic Deoban Formation. These deposits occur as irregular patches or pockets mainly within magnesite bodies, along with impurities of magnesite, dolomite and clinochlore. Textures represent different phases of reactions between magnesite and silica to produce talc. Petrography, XRD and geochemistry reveal that the talc has primarily developed at the expense of magnesite and silica, leaving dolomite largely un-reacted. Early fluid inclusions in magnesite and dolomite associated with talc are filled with H2O+NaCl+KCl ± MgCl2 ± CaCl2 fluids, which represent basin fluid system during diagenesis of carbonates. Their varied degree of re-equilibration was although not pervasive but points to increased burial, and hence requires careful interpretation. H2O-CO2 fluid with XCO2 between 0.06 and 0.12 was equilibrated with talc formation. The reaction dolomite+quartz → talc was not extensive because T-XCO2 was not favourable, and talc was developed principally after magnesite+quartz.  相似文献

罗甸滑石矿是贵州首次发现的白滑石矿,矿体呈似层状、透镜状产于辉绿岩体与围岩的接触带内,与罗甸玉共生。罗甸滑石为低铝、低铁质矿石,MgO含量接近滑石的理论值,结晶细、质纯、白度高,具有较高的开发利用价值,填补了贵州没有优质滑石矿的空白。罗甸滑石矿与罗甸玉矿的地质背景及其空间产出部位相同,并且具有相似的稀土元素组成及配分模式,揭示二者为相同成因,属于接触交代型矿床。  相似文献

本文总结了巴西两个最重要的滑石产地,Parana和Bahia区中滑石矿床的地质特征,并探讨了这些矿床的可能成因。巴西的滑石在世界滑石储量与产量中占有十分重要的地位。巴西Parana和Bahia区的滑石矿主要产于前寒武纪地体中。尽管该区的滑石具有不同的地质产状,与变质火山岩和变质沉积岩共生的滑石最为重要。其他类型的滑石,如与镁铁质-超镁铁质岩共生的、在花岗岩与白云质大理岩接触带的、在花岗岩体中呈包体或顶垂体状的、则相对不重要。在巴西与岩浆活动有关的滑石矿化主要发生在前寒武纪(Bahia区)和白垩纪(Parana区)。滑石的成因模式主要有两类:一为与岩浆热液有关的热液交代成矿模式,另一是起源于盆地热卤水的变质流体交代成矿模式。其中后一种成因模式可用来解释巴西的大多数大型滑石矿床,同时也适用于其他地区,如中国辽宁和乌拉尔南部的滑石成矿。  相似文献

印度南部和乌拉尔南部都有隐晶质菱镁矿产出,这两处矿床的产出地质环境相似,在矿物学和地球化学上具有广泛的相似性。印度南部的菱镁矿矿化主要与超镁铁质侵入杂岩体有关,并形成了部分已受变质的火山沉积地层。超镁铁质侵入杂岩体由纯橄岩,橄榄岩,辉石岩,辉长岩及它们的变质产物组成。在乌拉尔地区,菱镁矿床位于一个蛇绿岩带上的超镁铁岩地体中。隐晶质菱镁矿就以网脉状产出于超镁铁质岩地体上部的风化带中。印度和乌拉尔两个地区的矿床中的矿物组合都有菱镁矿,石英,方解石和白云石,但在印度南部的矿区中还含有滑石和菱铁矿。两个地区的菱镁矿矿石的质量都很好,所有的样品的主要成分都为菱镁矿(73~96%),而方解石(1~3%),白云石(0~7%),菱铁矿(0~2%),石英(0~5%)和滑石(O~2%)都只是次要矿物。次生的白云石和菱铁矿使一些矿石含有较高的CaO(最高达2.6%)和FeO(最高达1.6%),石英和滑石等矿物则使矿石中的SiO2较高(5—8%)。滑石指示了低温成因,它的出现说明两个矿区的菱镁矿可能都是内生或外生的成矿流体在上升或下降的过程中在开放裂隙中沉淀而成的。本文研究表明,全球性的超镁铁岩中菱镁矿成矿事件与蛇绿岩带有关,这对菱镁矿的勘探有指导意义。  相似文献

The Jianchaling nickel deposit in the Bikou Terrane (Shaanxi Province, China) occurs along the boundaries between granite porphyry and carbonated ultramafic rocks (carbonated serpentinite, talc–carbonate rocks, and listwaenite). Serpentine– magnetite, serpentine– magnesite– magnetite, and magnesite– talc– quartz– pyrite– violarite– millerite– chalcopyrite assemblage formed in carbonated ultramafic rocks during hydrothermal activities. Ni-bearing sulphides, coexisting with magnesite, postdated magnetite in carbonated ultramafic rocks. Compared with serpentinite, Ni, Co, Cu, Mn, and Pb concentrate in talc–carbonate rocks. The fact that the NiO contents of magnetite decrease with progressive carbonation of serpentinite suggests that Ni from magnetite concentrated in fluid and contributed to the formation of the Jianchaling nickel deposit. Sulphides precipitated from fluid with log fO2 value varying from −34.5 to −31.8 and log fS2 value varying from −10.3 to −9.2. High pH and HS activities triggered by transformation of serpentine into magnesite–talc–quartz assemblage promoted precipitation of Ni-bearing sulphides, and finally formed the Jianchaling hydrothermal nickel deposit.  相似文献

The volcanic-hosted massive sulphide (VHMS) deposits in the Eastern Desert of Egypt (e.g., Um Saki deposit) are associated with Precambrian coarse acid pyroclastic rocks. The upper contacts of the massive sulphide body are sharp and well-defined; while the keel zone to the mineralization is always associated with pervasive alteration, characterized by the presence of septechlorite and talc, associated with variable amounts of carbonate and tremolite. On the other hand, the economic talc deposits in Egypt are hosted intensively altered volcanic rocks. Besides talc, chlorite, carbonates and tremolite that occur in variable amounts in these deposits, anomalously high concentrations of gold are also present.The present study showed that alterations in the talc deposits of Darhib, El Atshan, Abu Gurdi, Egat, Um Selimat and Nikhira are similar to those occurring in the keel zone underlying the VHMS of Um Samuki and that the chemical modifications due to alteration processes (additions of Mg, Fe, Mn and Ca coupled with depletions in silica, alkalies, alumina and titanium) are comparable, even the host rocks are different, thus reflecting a genetic relationship. It is suggested that, the examined localities of talc deposits are hosted in the intensively altered volcanics in the keel zones of volcanogenic massive sulphide deposits. Recently, detailed geophysical prospecting program, including electric (resistivity, self-potential and induced polarization), electromagnetic and magnetic methods, was carried out at Darhib, Abu Gurdi and Um Selimat talc deposits. The quantitative interpretation of these geophysical measurements revealed the presence of subsurface bodies of sulphides. The present distribution of talc and allied minerals in Darhib, El Atshan, Abu Gurdi, Egat, Um Selimat and Nikhira could be explained by a tectonic process in which the coarse acid pyroclastic rocks with massive sulphides have tilted in such way that the footwall rock alterations (talc and allied minerals) are exposed on the present-day surface at these localities. Structural studies are currently under way in an attempt to explain the deformation regime that led to the present situation of talc deposits.Two distinct spatial and mineralogical associations of gold mineralization could be identified in the volcanogenic massive sulphide deposits and their footwall alterations (the keel zone) in the Eastern Desert of Egypt. These are (1) gold–silver–zinc association, and (2) gold–copper association. In the former, gold grades are very low and silver is anomalous. This association occurs typically in the upper levels of the VHMS deposit where low-temperature sulphides are abundant. Gold was deposited because of the mixing between the ascending hot solutions and the sulphate-rich seawater. The upper levels of Um Samuki sulphide body represent this association. Gold–copper association, on the other hand, typically occurs in the footwall altered rocks (the keel zone) and the lowest parts of the massive sulphide body. Gold grades reach up to 5.54 ppm, but the average is 1 ppm. Silver is very low, usually in the range of 4–10 ppm. Lead usually, but not always, accompanies gold in this association. Deposition of gold probably took place due to decreasing of temperature and/or increasing pH of the ascending hot brines. The keel zones at Darhib, Abu Gurdi, El Atshan, Um Selimat, Nikhira and Egat talc mines better represent this association.  相似文献

The adsorption and action of various polymers on talc has been investigated. Two families of polymers (starch-based polysaccharides and synthetic polyacrylamides) with specific molecular weights and functional group chemistry were studied. Adsorption isotherms, acoustophoresis, and contact angle studies enabled polymer adsorption behaviour, adsorbed layer thickness, and the hydrophilicity of the polymer-treated talc surface to be determined. Flotation testing on the treated talc revealed a hierarchy of effectiveness within the group of polymers studied. The observed trends in flotation performance are discussed with reference to the measured polymer layer properties. A 3D correlation plot of adsorbed layer thickness and contact angle against flotation recovery indicates that it may be feasible to predict an order of effectiveness for polymeric depressants based solely on measurements of the adsorbed layer properties, without recourse to flotation testing. This approach would be desirable when screening large numbers of potential depressants.  相似文献
