How online gamers’ participation fosters their team commitment: Perspective of social identity theory

Online games are highly popular applications. While online gamers actively participate in gaming teams, no study has yet explored whether gamers have sufficient teamwork knowledge and have accumulated sufficient team participation experience. These likely strengthen team commitment, but we do not know, indicating a research gap. Research filling this gap could shed light on useful means for enhancing gamers’ team commitment. Grounded in social identity theory, we theorize the mechanism that links gamers’ overall gaming team participation experience and overall gaming teamwork knowledge to their team commitment. We collect two-wave data from 344 online gamers that have played massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) and use structural equation modelling for data analysis. We find that overall team participation experience is positively related to gaming team identification, while overall teamwork knowledge is positively related to compliance with gaming team norms. Both team identification and norm compliance are positively related to gaming team commitment. This study is the first to clarify the mechanism underlying the impacts of overall gaming team participation experience and overall gaming teamwork knowledge on gamers’ team commitment. Our findings provide the practical insight that game designers should incorporate game features that require or reward gamers’ participation in gaming teams or enhance gaming teamwork knowledge, thus strengthening gamers’ team commitment.     

基于最优委托权安排模型的职务科技成果混合所有制研究

在职务科技成果权属混合所有制改革深入推进的背景下,通过构建职务科技成果产权分配模型,分析科研单位与科研人员在职务科技成果转化中的双向委托-代理关系,研究职务科技成果混合所有制是否能够有效促进科技成果转化、产权比例如何分配且受何因素影响等问题。通过研究发现：在没有相互监督的情况下,职务科技成果混合所有制对科技成果转化有积极作用,且职务科技成果最优产权分配比例与科研单位和科研人员在职务科技成果转化过程中的作用大小有关;当科研单位与科研人员之间的相互监督较强时,会改变职务科技成果最优产权分配比例。     

本科生管理案例分时段教学法研究

该文针对工商管理专业本科段管理案例教学中存在的学生准备不够充分、参与不足现象,提出了管理案例分时段教学法的构想。这种方法把整个教学过程分为课前准备时段、课堂理论与方法学习时段、课余消化吸收与团队学习讨论时段、课堂汇报/辩论时段等四个相互联系的时段。文章给出了管理案例教学时段划分的方法,探讨了每一时段的教学组织方式和内容。     

“Fortunately,I found a home here that allows me personal expression”: Co-teaching in the bilingual Hebrew-Arabic-speaking preschool in Israel

In this study, we asked how co-teachers in a bilingual preschool overcome challenges in the relationship-building stage, rethink their language education ideology, and coordinate language instruction strategies, and acknowledge their cultural and professional background. The participants in the study were two teachers: one Hebrew-speaking and one Arabic-speaking in Israel. During one academic year, we conducted observations and interviews with teachers. Findings showed that the teaming process was built on the teachers' openness to the different professional and cultural experience, readiness to rethink the initial language education ideology and to modify language strategies. The co-teachers' teaming was characterized by agentic behavior.     

Bridge21: teamwork,technology and learning. A pragmatic model for effective twenty-first-century team-based learning

There have been calls for decades by many educational writers and commentators for a new model of learning to facilitate what is generally described as twenty-first-century learning. Central to this challenge is the required shift in responsibility for who leads and owns the learning – from teacher to student. Such a shift requires a pragmatic pedagogical model to facilitate the transfer of control and ownership of learning. Vygotsky’s ‘more able other’ identified the peer as a key figure in learning. Teamwork facilitates project-based learning and, when mediated with technology, proves an effective partner in creating an engaging and autonomous learning experience. This paper describes the rationale for the design of a team-based model of twenty-first-century learning, particularly drawing upon the team-based learning model of the World Scout Movement. Results from a year-long study of the implementation of the model in an out-of-school context with 288 second-level students are presented. The authors argue that Bridge21 is a candidate learning model for effective, implementable, twenty-first-century, team-based learning.

Reengineering Academic Teams Toward a Network Organizational Structure*

This article examines student teamwork in the academic field from a structural perspective. Student teams are often prearranged and then left to organize themselves and get on with their work, without any further structural support; this, however, can become a negative experience on teamwork. A varied contribution among team members often occurs and unavoidably leads to friction and reduced performance. The aim of this project is to explore the main problems in academic teamwork and investigate tools that provide relevant solutions. We present the concept of network organizational structure and discuss how this can improve collaboration and communication. The main tools to achieve a structural transformation from the more traditional form of team organization to the fairer network form, and their implications are discussed.
