Purpose

To describe the relationship between psychosocial factors and mental health among housekeepers.

Methods

A cross-sectional study was conducted nearby all the housekeepers of Farhat-Hached teaching hospital of Sousse (Tunisia). After their oral consent, employees completed a self-administrated questionnaire including socio-demographic and lifestyle data, the Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ) evaluating psychological stress at work and the Hopkins Symptoms Checklist (HSCL-25) studying mental health.

Results

Overall, 136 cleaners were enrolled in the study, corresponding to a response rate of 89.5%. The mean age was 41.9 ± 7.7 years. According to the demand control model, 26.5% of the participants were in the situation of job-strain. The study of HSCL-25 scales revealed a positive mental health disorders in 50% of cases. The study of the psychosocial factors revealed a correlation between job-strain and urban origin (P = 0.007), high psychological demand and seniority in the cleaning sector (P = 0.030) and low decision latitude and the night work (P = 0.015). The mental health association were associated with unmarried status (P = 0.006), high psychological demand (P < 0.001), active employees (P = 0.037), and iso-strain (P = 0.013). Mental disorders were associated with a high psychological demand in the presence of a high decision latitude (OR = 9.2 [2.8–30.8]) and a job-strain in the presence of low social support (OR = 3.5 [1.2–10.4]).

Conclusion

Psychosocial factors can deteriorate seriously the mental health of workers. Their identification is the most important step in any efficient preventive strategy.  相似文献

The succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) enzyme complex functions as a key enzyme coupling the oxidation of succinate to fumarate in the citric acid cycle. Inactivation of this enzyme complex results in the cellular accumulation of the oncometabolite succinate, which is postulated to be a key driver in tumorigenesis. Succinate accumulation inhibits 2‐oxoglutarate‐dependent dioxygenases, including DNA and histone demethylase enzymes and hypoxic gene response regulators. Biallelic inactivation (typically resulting from one inherited and one somatic event) at one of the four genes encoding the SDH complex (SDHA/B/C/D) is the most common cause for SDH deficient (dSDH) tumours. Germline mutations in the SDHx genes predispose to a spectrum of tumours including phaeochromocytoma and paraganglioma (PPGL), wild type gastrointestinal stromal tumours (wtGIST) and, less commonly, renal cell carcinoma and pituitary tumours. Furthermore, mutations in the SDHx genes, particularly SDHB, predispose to a higher risk of malignant PPGL, which is associated with a 5‐year mortality of 50%. There is general agreement that biochemical and imaging surveillance should be offered to asymptomatic carriers of SDHx gene mutations in the expectation that this will reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with dSDH tumours. However, there is no consensus on when and how surveillance should be performed in children and young adults. Here, we address the question: “What age should clinical, biochemical and radiological surveillance for PPGL be initiated in paediatric SDHx mutation carriers?”.  相似文献

The use of wastewater for irrigation in agroforestry is cost-effective for water management. It is well established that rhizospheric microorganisms such as N2-fixing bacteria are able to modulate rhizobioaugmention and to boost phyoremediation process. To date, no study has been conducted to evaluate biological effects of rhizobioaugmentation in Casuarina glauca trees induced by their symbiont N-fixing actinobacteria of the genus Frankia. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the main effects of rhizobioaugmentation on the biological activity in the C. glauca’s rhizosphere and on C. glauca growth in soils irrigated with industrial wastewater. Two Frankia strains (BMG5.22 and BMG5.23) were used in a single or dual inoculations of C. glauca seedlings irrigated with industrial wastewater. Soil enzymes activity related to carbon, phosphorus, sulfur and nitrogen cycling were measured. Results revealed that the BMG5.22 Frankia strain increases significantly the size (dry weight) of C. glauca shoots and roots while dual inoculation increased significantly the root length. Surprisingly, β-glucosidase (BG), cellobiohydrolase (CBH), β-N-acetylglucosaminidase (NAGase), aryl sulfatase (AS), acid phosphatase (AP), alkaline phosphatase (AlP), glycine aminopeptidase (GAP), leucine aminopeptidase (LAP), and peroxidase (PER) activity in the rhizosphere decreased significantly in soils treated with the two strains of symbionts. This suggests no positive correlations between enzymatic activity and C. glauca growth.  相似文献
