Turkey is located on the highly active Eurasian plate. A very active strike slip fault, the North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ), crosses Turkey from east to west; earthquakes occurred on this fault on August 17, 1999 (Kocaeli) and November 12, 1999 (Düzce). Regional geology and subsoil conditions can significantly change the characteristics of ground motion. For this reason, determining soil amplification during an earthquake, especially for soft soils, is a very important topic for researchers. In this study, one dimensional ground response analyses were performed for selected Adapazari sites using the August 17, 1999 Kocaeli earthquake strong ground motion record with SHAKE2000 software. Soil characteristics and depth to engineering bedrock at the selected sites are different and the observed level of structural damage at these sites during the Kocaeli earthquake was also different. Calculated soil surface response spectrums at these sites were compared with the recommended design spectra of the Turkish Earthquake Code and the Eurocode 8. According to one dimensional ground response analyses, the calculated response spectra of the selected sites exceed the recommended design spectra of the Turkish Earthquake Code and the Eurocode 8. Calculations show that higher amplification ratios occur at higher periods due to soil behaviour. Results of this study indicate that local geological conditions may amplify ground motion at some periods and, due to this amplification, the calculated response spectra may exceed the recommended design spectra. Therefore, it is clear that local site conditions must be considered for earthquake-resistant engineering designs on soft alluvial soil deposits. 相似文献

Design organizations play a major role in the construction industry: they are the media that transfer the requirements of the client to the contractor and ensure that they are met. Thus they need to provide a high quality of service to ensure that their client's project achieves the best possible standards of cost, time and quality. Seventy quality practices (QP) were identified as having a bearing on the quality of service provided by the local design organizations. These quality practices were grouped into fifteen sections termed quality sections (QS). The prevalence of these practices among the local design organizations was surveyed and determined. The results indicate a significant need for improvement in the quality sections ‘working relationship’, ‘employee training and education’, and ‘performance quality audit’. The study reveals the need for the establishment of a design code, and evaluation standards for local design organizations. 相似文献

This paper presents an adaptation and extension of the shock filters on weighted graphs using the formalism of partial difference equations. This adaptation leads to new morphological operators that alternate between nonlocal dilation and nonlocal erosion filter type on graphs. Furthermore, this adaptation extends the shock filter applications to any data that can be represented by graphs. Selective CO oxidation over promoted Au/γ-Al2O3 catalysts in the presence of CO2 and H2O in the feed

In this work, the effect of promoter type (Mg, Mn, Ce, Co, Fe and Ni) on selective CO oxidation performance of Au/γ-Al2O3 was studied with the realistic feed stream containing CO2 and H2O. The effects of Au loading, promoter loading, reaction temperature and the feed composition were also investigated. It was found that MgO was the best promoter in the presence of CO2 and H2O, and 1.25 wt.% Mg was sufficient for promotion. The CO conversion decreased with the addition of CO2 while the presence of H2O had some positive effects. 相似文献

A series of novel ZnO/polyimide composite films with different ZnO contents was prepared through incorporation hexagonal disklike ZnO particles into poly(amic acid) of the pre polymer of the polyimide. The hexagonal disklike ZnO particles with a diameter of 300-500 nm were synthesized from zinc acetate and NaOH in water with citric acid. The prepared zinc oxide-polyimide composites were characterized for their structure, morphology, and thermal behavior employing Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron micrograph, X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis techniques. Thermal analyses show that the ZnO particles were successfully incorporated into the polymer matrix and these ZnO/polymer composites have a good thermal stability. Scanning electron microscopy studies indicate the ZnO particles were uniformly dispersed in the polymer and they remained at the original size (300-500 nm) before immobilization. All composite films with ZnO particle contents from 1 to 5 wt% show good transparency in the visible region and luminescent properties. 相似文献

Starting with Darwin, biologists have asked how populations evolve from a low fitness state that is evolutionarily stable to a high fitness state that is not. Specifically of interest is the emergence of cooperation and multicellularity where the fitness of individuals often appears in conflict with that of the population. Theories of social evolution and evolutionary game theory have produced a number of fruitful results employing two-state two-body frameworks. In this study, we depart from this tradition and instead consider a multi-player, multi-state evolutionary game, in which the fitness of an agent is determined by its relationship to an arbitrary number of other agents. We show that populations organize themselves in one of four distinct phases of interdependence depending on one parameter, selection strength. Some of these phases involve the formation of specialized large-scale structures. We then describe how the evolution of independence can be manipulated through various external perturbations. 相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of oil type and oxidation status on acrylamide (AA) formation and colour development in potato products under domestic baking conditions. Sunflower, soybean and olive oil were used; the first one was thermally oxidized to obtain different oxidation status. A potato dough containing 10 % oil, potato powder, flour and water was shaped into thin discs and baked at 180 °C for different heating times. AA concentration, moisture content and surface colour were determined. Results obtained showed that neither the nature of lipids present, in terms of content of unsaturated fatty acids, nor the degree of fat oxidation influenced AA formation in low-fat baked potato products. Browning ratio higher than 45 % and moisture content lower than 17 % resulted in dark brown, almost burnt, products. Moreover, in those cases, no correlation could be found between those variables and AA content, since formation and degradation simultaneously occur. When the browning ratio ranged between 0 and 45 %, a good linear correlation with AA formation was observed, suggesting that the browning ratio may be considered as a reliable indicator of AA concentration. Finally, AA less than 1000 μg/kg, which is an indicative value that has been recently set for potato crisps by the European Commission, corresponds to a browning ratio of less than 8 % and moisture content more than 23.5 %. 相似文献

In this study, the performance (current–voltage curve) prediction of a Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) is performed for different operational conditions using an Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS). First, ANFIS is trained with a set of input and output data. The trained model is then tested with an independent set of experimental data. The trained and tested model is then used to predict the performance curve of the PEMFC under various operational conditions. The model shows very good agreement with the experimental data and this indicates that ANFIS is capable of predicting fuel cell performance (in terms of cell voltage) with a high accuracy in an easy, rapid and cost effective way for the case presented. Finally, the capabilities and the limitations of the model for the application in fuel cells have been discussed. 相似文献
