In this study, the silicate nanotubes of the mineral halloysite will be used as reinforcement in polyamide-6 (PA 6). The nanocomposites based on PA-6 and as-received halloysite were prepared by melt extrusion and an adjacent injection moulding process. Mechanical and thermomechanical properties have been investigated by tensile testing and dynamic mechanical analysis. The results show an increased strength and stiffness as well as an enhanced elongation at break at low halloysite content. To evaluate the potential of halloysite as a new candidate in the class of nanofillers, the properties of the halloysite nanocomposites has been compared to those of conventional nanocomposites based on organically modified montmorillonite. From this comparison it can be seen, that both types of nanocomposites show enhanced tensile properties as well as an increased storage modulus, but the increase in tensile strength is more pronounced in the organoclay nanocomposites, whereas the raise of the storage modulus is more prominent in the halloysite nanocomposites.  相似文献

In this letter, extraordinary transmission in sub-wavelength hole arrays is employed in combination with self-complementary Babinet concepts to design a novel class of quasioptical polarizer for millimeter wave frequencies. After a proper design, the device has been miniaturized in such a way that operation under Fresnel zone of a Gaussian beam has been demonstrated. Observed the sexual behavior of 10 male rhesus monkeys before and after castration and during replacement therapy with testosterone propionate. In 10 tests before castration, all of the Ss ejaculated at least once, and in Weeks 21-25 and 51-55 after castration, 50 and 30%, respectively, ejaculated at least once. In the 35 postcastration tests given over a 55-wk period, 2 males did not ejaculate. 50% of the Ss achieved intromission 1 yr after castration. The percentage of castrated Ss showing intromission and ejaculation and the frequency of these responses were higher than those reported for most nonprimate species but did not differ greatly from those reported for the dog. BACKGROUND & AIMS: Guanylin, an endogenous gastrointestinal peptide, causes the translocation of NaCl from interstitial fluid to the intestinal lumen. The aim of this study was to examine whether changes in dietary salt intake lead to compensatory changes in expression of the guanylin signaling pathway. METHODS: Rats received low-, normal-, or high-sodium diets for 1 week. Colonic guanylin expression was evaluated by Western and Northern blotting, rates of guanylin secretion by measuring biologically active guanylin released into the medium from colon explants, and expression of the guanylin receptor (C-type guanylate cyclase) by Northern blotting and bioassay. RESULTS: By every criterion, the low-salt diet reduced expression of guanylin to 30%-40% of the level found in control animals. Guanylin receptor expression was also decreased, although less dramatically and with a lower statistical significance. For both guanylin and guanylin receptor, the high-salt diet had no significant effect on expression. CONCLUSIONS: The data support the hypothesis that the guanylin pathway is down-regulated as an adaptive response to salt restriction.  相似文献

The induction of tolerance has been proposed as a therapeutic strategy for arthritis aiming to decrease progression of the pathology, probably by promoting suppressor mechanisms of the autoimmune response. This work aimed to confirm whether the treatment with vitamin D3 could synergize oral tolerance induced by hydrolyzed collagen peptides, in our experimental model of antigen induced arthritis in New Zealand rabbits. Clinical observation of the phenomenon indicates that simultaneous treatment with hydrolyzed collagen peptides and vitamin D3 was beneficial when compared with no treatment, for arthritic animals, and for arthritic animals that received treatment with only hydrolyzed collagen peptides or vitamin D3. Treatment with hydrolyzed collagen peptides caused diminished proinflammatory cytokine levels, an effect synergized significantly by the simultaneous treatment with vitamin D3. The anatomical‐pathological studies of the animals that received both treatments simultaneously showed synovial tissues without lymphocytic and plasma cell infiltrates, and without vascular proliferation. Some of the synovial tissue of the animals of these groups showed a slight decrease in Galectin‐3 expression. We propose that simultaneous oral treatment with vitamin D3 and hydrolyzed collagen peptides could increase the immunoregulatory effect on the process of previously triggered arthritis. We used articular cartilage hydrolysate and not collagen II because peptides best expose antigenic determinants that could induce oral tolerance. Oral tolerance may be considered in the design of novel alternative therapies for autoimmune disease and we have herein presented novel evidence that the simultaneous treatment with vitamin D3 may synergize this beneficial effect.
