We study the homogeneous cooling of hard, smooth ellipsoids in three dimensions using event driven numerical simulation. The elongation of the particle has a strong effect on the cooling behavior. Weakly elongated ellipsoids display two distinct cooling regimes. For small times, the translational and rotational energy decay at a different rates. Once their ratio reaches a time-independent value (different from equipartition), the overall temperature of the system decays like t ?2, as predicted by Haff??s law. For more elongated ellipsoids the translational and rotational temperatures rapidly reach a constant ratio near unity. The cooling behavior in the homogeneous state can be predicted from Haff??s law and the equilibrium collision rate. 相似文献

Distraction and inattention are considered to be very important and prevalent factors in the causation of road accidents. There have been many recent research studies which have attempted to understand the circumstances under which a driver becomes distracted or inattentive and how distraction/inattention can be prevented. Both factors are thought to have become more important in recent times partly due to the evolution of in-vehicle information and communication technology. This study describes a methodology that was developed to understand when factors such as distraction and inattention may have been contributors to crashes and also describes some of the consequences of distraction and inattention in terms of subsequent driver actions. 相似文献

A mild, catalytic, atom economical synthesis of imidazo[1,2‐a]pyridines has been developed: catalytic dichloro(2‐pyridinecarboxylato)gold [PicAuCl2] in the presence of an acid produces a range of imidazo[1,2‐a]pyridines in good yields starting from alkynes and 2‐aminopyridine N‐oxides. This strategy is mild and foreseen to be of particular use for the installation of stereogenic centers adjacent to the imidazo[1,2‐a]pyridine ring without loss of enantiomeric excess.

Over the years, there has been a steady stream of publications on the influence that minor components and additives have on
the physical properties of fat continuous systems. These have been reviewed here. Both indigenous and added components are
taken into account. The various materials have been discussed, ranging from partial glycerides and phospholipids to esterified
sugars and polyols. Within the publications in this area, the (sub-)micron effects that these minor components have on nucleation,
crystal growth, morphology, heat capacity and polymorphic stability have been described and discussed and, sometimes, explained.
Similarly, the effects on a macroscopic level, such as visual aspects, melting profiles, post-hardening and rheology have
been the subject of research. Although limited compositional information, especially of additives, hinders appropriate discussions
of the relevant mechanisms, some generic guidelines as to what type and strength of effect can be expected have been derived.
As a general rule, a more significant influence is observed when the acyl group of the minor component (where present) is
similar to those present in the fat itself. Additives may have different effects depending on the fat they are added to, their
concentration and the temperature, especially with increasing undercooling (which typically reduces the effect of additives). 相似文献

Aqueous photoresists that are capable of higher resolutions than are currently employed by the cathode ray tube (CRT) industry were developed by combining photoactivators, which activate at shorter UV wavelengths with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). Two photoactivators were synthesized: 4,4′‐diazido‐2,2′‐biphenyl disodium disulfonate (DABP), which has a maximum absorbance at 264 nm, and 4,4′‐diazido‐2,2′‐biphenylethane disodium disulfonate (DABPE), which has a maximum absorbance at 258 nm. The PVP/DABP and PVP/DABPE photoresists successfully imaged a pattern with resolution as small as 4.4 μm with photoactivator concentrations greater than 20% of the PVP concentration. Nickel-alumina nanocomposites were produced by electrocodeposition utilizing two electrode configurations, a parallel plate electrode (PPE) and impinging jet electrode (IJE), and various current modulations, i.e. direct current (DC), pulse plating (PP) and pulse reverse plating (PRP). Particle incorporation increased linearly with the particle loading of the electrolyte for all deposition conditions studied. A maximum incorporation of 12 vol.% of 50 nm γ-Al2O3 particles in a nickel matrix was achieved using an unsubmerged IJE system, while PP and PRP resulted in composites with particle contents up to 11 vol.% of 13 nm γ-Al2O3 particles. In general, nanocomposites showed higher hardness compared to the pure nickel coatings. The enhanced hardness of the composite films was associated with modifications in the microstructure of the nickel matrix as well as with the nanoparticle incorporation. The pure nickel deposits exhibited a strong (1 0 0) texture. With increasing plating current density and particle incorporation, a variation in the crystallite size and a loss of texture was observed. 相似文献
