Electrospark Dispersion of Metal Nanopowder

The production of electrically conducting metal nanopowder by electrospark dispersion in liquid dielectric is considered, in the case with a significant overvoltage in the discharge gap between the electrodes. An experimental apparatus with an air gap that creates an overvoltage at the working spark gap is developed. The two gaps split the voltage on capacitor discharge.

A model validation approach to texture recognition and inpainting

A new approach to texture recognition and inpainting problems is proposed. The approach is based on the robust model validation and state estimation techniques. The proposed solutions require the modeling of textures by using uncertain dynamical systems. We propose a new modeling method which is efficient in terms of computational and memory requirements. The main aspects of the modeling method include system identification and order reduction of marginally stable uncertain discrete-time systems. To demonstrate the results, both static-image textures and video textures (also known as dynamic textures) are considered.     

Vision-Based Target Tracking and Surveillance With Robust Set-Valued State Estimation

Tracking a target from a video stream (or a sequence of image frames) involves nonlinear measurements in Cartesian coordinates. However, the target dynamics, modeled in Cartesian coordinates, result in a linear system. We present a robust linear filter based on an analytical nonlinear to linear measurement conversion algorithm. Using ideas from robust control theory, a rigorous theoretical analysis is given which guarantees that the state estimation error for the filter is bounded, i.e., a measure against filter divergence is obtained. In fact, an ellipsoidal set-valued estimate is obtained which is guaranteed to contain the true target location with an arbitrarily high probability. The algorithm is particularly suited to visual surveillance and tracking applications involving targets moving on a plane.
