An attempt was made to elucidate the relationship between chemical structure, in terms of glass transition temperature (Tg), and conversion temperature (TTR) of thermally rearranged polybenzoxazole membranes, by analyzing DSC and TGA data for a total of 15 sets of o-hydroxypolyimides and copolyimides, derived from two experimental and four commercial structurally different diamines, as well as four different dianhydride monomers. Our research revealed that TTR was influenced by chain ridigity of o-hydroxypolyimides, and exhibited a linear relationship with Tg. Therefore, structure and thermal property of o-hydroxypolyimide should be considered when studying TR polymers to determine thermal conversion to polybenzoxazole.  相似文献

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disorder of autoimmune aetiology. Experimental therapies with the use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have emerged as a response to the unmet need for new treatment options. The unique immunomodulatory features of stem cells obtained from Wharton’s jelly (WJ-MSCs) make them an interesting research and therapeutic model. Most WJ-MSCs transplants for multiple sclerosis use intrathecal administration. We studied the effect of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) obtained from MS patients on the secretory activity of WJ-MSCs and broaden this observation with WJ-MSCs interactions with human oligodendroglia cell line (OLs). Analysis of the WJ-MSCs secretory activity with use of Bio-Plex Pro™ Human Cytokine confirmed significant and diverse immunomodulatory potential. Our data reveal rich WJ-MSCs secretome with markedly increased levels of IL-6, IL-8, IP-10 and MCP-1 synthesis and a favourable profile of growth factors. The addition of MS CSF to the WJ-MSCs culture caused depletion of most proteins measured, only IL-12, RANTES and GM-CSF levels were increased. Most cytokines and chemokines decreased their concentrations in WJ-MSCs co-cultured with OLs, only eotaxin and RANTES levels were slightly increased. These results emphasize the spectrum of the immunomodulatory properties of WJ-MSCs and show how those effects can be modulated depending on the transplantation milieu.  相似文献

Dioecious species differ in the pattern and intensity of male and female reproductive investments. We aimed to determine whether female shoots deprived of generative buds show biochemical features, indicating their less-pronounced reproductive effort. For this purpose, the same branches of mature Taxus baccata females were deprived of generative organs. In the second and third years of the experiment, measurements were made in every season from the control and bud-removed shoots of females and control males. Bud removal caused an increase in nitrogen concentration almost to the level detected in the needles of male specimens, but only in current-year needles. Moreover, differences between male and control female shoots were present in the C:N ratio and increment biomass, but they disappeared when bud removal was applied to females. Additionally, between-sex differences were observed for content of phenolic compounds, carbon and starch, and SLA, independent of the female shoot reproductive effort. The study revealed that nitrogen uptake in seeds and arils may explain the lower nitrogen level and consequently the lower growth rate of females compared to males. At the same time, reproduction did not disturb carbon level in adjacent tissues, and two hypotheses explaining this phenomenon have been put forward.  相似文献

The article describes the influence of the amount and type of organically modified nanosilica (surface and structure modified Aerosil 7200 and surface-modified Aerosil R711) on the photopolymerization kinetics of tetraethylene glycol dimethacrylate and on the physical properties of nanosilica dispersions in the monomer and the polymer matrix. Kinetic measurements showed that silica addition can accelerate or retard the polymerization depending on the silica content; the magnitude of this affect depends on the type of silica modification and can be associated with stability of silica dispersion (as measured by Zeta potential value). The highest reactivity showed compositions containing 4-5 wt.-% of silica and acceleration of the polymerization seems to result mainly from the increase in the propagation rate coefficient. The composites obtained show a uniform dispersion of nanoparticles within the polymer matrix for the silica content at least several wt.-%. The size of aggregates covered with the polymer layer is between 50 and 150 nm for Aerosil R7200 and 75-300 nm for Aerosil R711.  相似文献

Blends of polystyrene and polybutadiene were prepared by melt mixing. The melt rheology behavior of the blends was studied with a capillary rheometer. The morphology of the blends was examined with scanning electron microscopy. The levels of continuity and cocontinuity were studied by both morphology and dissolution techniques. The region of phase inversion was observed at 50 wt % polystyrene. Various theoretical models were applied to determine the region of cophase continuity and to locate the point of phase inversion. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) have become widely used vectors for the cellular import of molecules in basic and applied biomedical research. Despite the broad acceptance of these molecules as molecular carriers, the details of the mode of cellular internalization and membrane permeation remain elusive. Within the last two years endocytosis has been demonstrated to be a route of uptake shared by several CPPs. These findings had a significant impact on CPP research. State-of-the-art cell biology is now required to advance the understanding of the intracellular fate of the CPP and cargo molecules. Owing to their presumed ability to cross lipid bilayers, CPPs also represent highly interesting objects of biophysical research. Numerous studies have investigated structure-activity relationships of CPPs with respect to their ability to bind to a lipid bilayer or to cross this barrier. Endocytosis route only relocates the membrane permeation from the cell surface to endocytic compartments. Therefore, biophysical experiments are key to a mechanistic molecular understanding of the cellular uptake of CPPs. However, biophysical investigations have to consider the molecular environment encountered by a peptide inside and outside a cell. In this contribution we will review biophysical and cell-biology data obtained for several prominent CPPs. Furthermore, we will summarize recent findings on the cell-penetrating characteristics of antimicrobial peptides and the antimicrobial properties of CPPs. Peptides of both groups have overlapping characteristics. Therefore, both fields may greatly benefit from each other. The review will conclude with a perspective of how biophysics and cell biology may synergize even more efficiently in the future.  相似文献

A novel Cu(II) coordination polymer, [Cu(ox)(DMSO)2]n (1) (ox-oxalate dianion, DMSO-dimethyl sulphoxide) has been prepared in the reaction of copper nitrate dihydrate and allantoin (5-ureidohydantoin) in DMSO/water solution. Compound (1) crystallizes in the monoclinic, space group P121/c1 with a = 5.1785(7), b = 13.6311(18), c = 8.5386(12) Å, β = 107.524(12)°, V = 574,76(14) Å3, Z = 4, Dcal = 1779 mg/m3, R1 = 0.0449. The metal ion coordinates through four oxygen atoms belonging to two bidentate bridging oxalate ligands, and two oxygen atoms from two DMSO ligands forming an elongated octahedron. The crystal structure was confirmed by FT-IR and Uv–vis spectroscopic data.  相似文献
