ABSTRACT

This paper presents an empirical assessment of four state-of-the-art risk-averse approaches to deal with the capacitated lot-sizing problem under stochastic demand. We analyse two mean-risk models based on the semideviation and on the conditional value-at-risk risk measures, and alternate first and second-order stochastic dominance approaches. The extensive computational experiments based on different instances characteristics and on a case-study suggest that CVaR exhibits a good trade-off between risk and performance, followed by the semideviation and first-order stochastic dominance approach. For all approaches, enforcing risk-aversion helps to reduce the cost-standard deviation substantially, which is usually accomplished via increasing production rates. Overall, we can say that very risk-averse decision-makers would be willing to pay an increased price to have a much less risky solution given by CVaR. In less risk-averse settings, though, semideviation and first-order stochastic dominance can be appealing alternatives to provide significantly more stable production planning costs with a marginal increase of the expected costs.  相似文献

An exploratory study demonstrated that subtle changes in solids and process water were caused by long-distance turbulent transport of tailings from the concentrator to the impoundment of a Cu (Mo) porphyry copper deposit. Slurry water chemical analysis was complemented by modelling potential phase precipitation or dissolution and speciation of dissolved metals. It was found that transport did not affect major insoluble mineral phases. However, the degrees of liberation of several phyllosilicates, as determined by automated mineralogy, were reduced close to the impoundment, which points to separation of clay particles from tectosilicate surfaces by the turbulence; this also was observed by SEM examination of micro-aggregate specimens. Reduction of maximum particle sizes, increased N2 monolayer adsorption, and resultant specific surface areas indicate that transport modified the micro-aggregates. Major element water chemistry is controlled by the presence of soluble mineral phases, such as gypsum, and reagents, such as lime, in the flotation process. Changes in the dissolved concentrations of some elements could potentially affect tailings deportment in the impoundment. Increased concentrations of Al may affect the clay settling behaviour, while Mo and As levels will require treatment prior to the discharge of water from the tailings impoundment. This study demonstrated that systematic scrutiny of tailings slurries leaving the concentrator and before entering the impoundment can be potentially useful, though care will have to be exercised to replicate sample handling and analytical conditions, during any long-term monitoring.  相似文献

In this work, NIRS is employed to provide compositions of α‐olefin copolymers, allowing for evaluation of the effects of certain key process variables on the final NIR spectral responses of obtained polymer materials. This work also introduces a new temperature programmed analytical technique, which combines NIRS measurements with partial fractionation of α‐olefin copolymers. The new proposed technique can be used for evaluation of polyolefin compositions, as presented here for poly(propene/1‐butene) copolymers. Besides, preliminary results obtained from thermal fractionation experiments indicate that this new proposed experimental technique can be employed for characterization of comonomer sequence distributions of α‐olefin copolymers. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Organochlorine pesticides (OCs) have a variety of acute and chronic pathological effects on animals, are persistent in the environment and are accumulated in adipose tissue of animals. In Argentina there are few studies reporting the OC contamination in the fauna. Moreover, no data are available for an ecologically relevant region, the arid-semiarid midwest region of Argentina. Recently, it was reported OC contamination in the water of an important artificial water reservoir of this area, the Embalse La Florida in the San Luis province. The present study aims to provide OC baseline data for birds of Embalse La Florida and to evaluate the potential risk of OC contamination for the local avifauna. We selected two fish-eating species, Podiceps major (great grebe) and Phalacrocorax brasilianus (neotropic cormorant) and one omnivore species, Pitangus sulphuratus (great kiskadee) to evaluate OC contamination. Alpha-, beta-, delta- and gamma-hexachlorocyclohexane (SigmaHCH), p,p'-DDT, p,p'-DDD, p,p'-DDE and methoxychlor (SigmaDDT), aldrin, dieldrin, endrin and endosulfan (SigmaALD) and, cis-chlordane, trans-chlordane, heptachlor, heptachlor epoxide(SigmaCHL) were measured in adipose tissue of two male great grebes, six neotropic cormorant (3 of each sex) and four great kiskadees (2 of each sex). We detected all OC pesticides assayed [SigmaHCH range: ND to 3168.41 ng/g fat, SigmaCHL range: ND to 4961.66 ng/g fat, SigmaALD range: 287.07 to 9161.70 ng/g fat, SigmaDDT range: 1068.98 to 6479.84 ng/g fat], with the exception of p,p'-DDT. Summed OC concentration in all bird species ranged from 2684.91 to 19231.91 ng/g fat. The omnivore had significantly greater concentrations of SigmaCHLs than fish-eating species. Females of the neotropic cormorant had significantly higher amounts of SigmaHCH and SigmaCHL than males. The OC concentrations detected in birds were lower than those reported in the literature that are associated with deleterious effects on survival or reproduction in others species of birds. This study is the first report of OC contamination in birds of the midwest region of Argentina and constitutes a starting point for future studies that evaluate temporal changes of OCs in birds in this region.  相似文献

The esterification of oleic acid and methanol using sulfuric acid as a homogeneous catalyst is studied in reactive‐separation systems. The conversion of the free fatty acid was investigated in two different experiments with the molar ratio of methanol/oleic acid, amount of catalyst, temperature, and reaction time as variables. The conversion of the free fatty acid was found to depend strongly on the molar ratio of methanol/oleic acid. The reaction time had a direct effect on the conversion of the free fatty acid, and this conversion decreased with higher temperature. These results were valuable for a preliminary study on biodiesel production, using an acid homogeneous catalyst in a reactive dividing‐wall distillation column.  相似文献

This paper addresses the estimation of specific growth rate and substrate concentration from biomass measurements in fermentation processes. Specifically, sliding-mode observers are proposed, for which finite-time global convergence is demonstrated using Lyapunov stability theory and concepts of variable structure systems. Two observers are developed for specific growth rate estimation, one producing a discontinuous estimation which is used afterwards for substrate estimation, and the other one – based on high-gain observers – that generates a smooth estimation with first-order dynamics and finite-time bounded convergence error. In the case of substrate estimation, an observer that increases the convergence rate to a vicinity of the real substrate concentration while achieving asymptotic convergence despite kinetic model uncertainties in properly excited processes is designed. This observer also exhibits first-order dynamics.  相似文献

In recent years, several papers on machining processes have focused on the use of artificial neural networks for modeling surface roughness. Even in such a specific niche of engineering literature, the papers differ considerably in terms of how they define network architectures and validate results, as well as in their training algorithms, error measures, and the like. Furthermore, a perusal of the individual papers leaves a researcher without a clear, sweeping view of what the field’s cutting edge is. Hence, this work reviews a number of these papers, providing a summary and analysis of the findings. Based on recommendations made by scholars of neurocomputing and statistics, the review includes a set of comparison criteria as well as assesses how the research findings were validated. This work also identifies trends in the literature and highlights their main differences. Ultimately, this work points to underexplored issues for future research and shows ways to improve how the results are validated.  相似文献
