Batch experiments were carried out to asses the effect of Cu(II) and Zn(II) on the biosorption of lead(II) ions by non-living Chlorella vulgaris. The uptake of Pb(II) was examined for single, binary and ternary solutions at different initial concentrations and different pH values. The experimental results showed that the uptake increased with increasing pH from 3.0 to an optimum value of 5.0. The biosorption of Pb(II) was found to be adversely affected by the presence of Cu(II) ions, while Zn(II) ions seemed to have negligible effect on the process. The equilibrium data were fitted to four isotherm models: Langmuir, Freundlich, Sips and Dubinin–Radushkevich; the Sips isotherm gave the best fit for the data. Modeling of the controlling mechanisms indicated that both intrinsic kinetics and mass transfer played major roles in controlling the process. A new dimensionless parameter, Ψ, was defined to asses the relative contributions of the two mechanisms to the biosorption of lead(II). Mass transfer seemed to be the dominant mechanism at low initial lead(II) concentrations, while intrinsic kinetics dominates at high concentrations.  相似文献

Grafted copolymer of poly(tetrafluoroethylene ethylene) (ET) with acrylic acid (AAc) was prepared by direct radiation method. The obtained films were modified by treating with small amounts of Co2+ and K+ ions (1.0 wt %). The effects of such treatment on the thermal stability and electrical conductivity of these films were studied. Cobalt treatment did not much affect the thermal degradation of the films. The results obtained revealed that k+ treatment enhanced the thermal degradation of ET‐g‐PAAc, which started 273 K lower than that observed in the case of the untreated and Co2+‐treated films. Potassium and cobalt treatment of the investigated films increased their electrical conductivity (σ) and decreased the activation energy ΔEσ. The increase in σ values was, however, more pronounced in the case of K+‐treated film. These results were discussed in terms of the effective increase in the hydrophilicity of the films, especially those treated with potassium. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The inhibiting effect of benzotriazole (BTA) on the corrosion of -Al-bronze (Cu-7% Al) in 3.4% NaCl was studied. BTA showed good inhibition effects from short up to extended periods of time (about six weeks). The morphologies of the alloy surface were monitored after various periods of corrosion in the absence and presence of BTA, using SEM. The corrosion products were identified by X-ray diffraction. Corrosive attack occurs very early in the absence of BTA, leading to general and pitting corrosion. BTA was found to have a stronger inhibiting effect on the anodic dissolution of copper than on the cathodic reduction of oxygen. The current-potential relation is divided into two regions: region I within which BTA has a strong effect on the charge transfer kinetics, and a limiting current region where BTA has no significant inhibiting effect. It is also shown that the interaction of BTA with a Cu20-covered alloy surface is faster than on reduced alloy surfaces, although the protection efficiency on the latter is slightly better than on the former.  相似文献

The ZnO/Si heterojunctions have been prepared by depositing n-ZnO films doped with aluminium on p-Si by spray pyrolysis method. Heterojunction solar cells were fabricated using the configuration Al/ZnO/Si/In. The electrical properties of the heterojunction are investigated by means of current–voltage measurements in the temperature range 295–375 K. The cells show the rectifying behaviour characterized by the current–voltage (I–V) measurement under a dark condition, while photoelectric effects have been exhibited under the illumination. As a result, the conversion efficiency of the fabricated cell of about 6.6% was obtained.  相似文献

In this study, polyurethane (PU)-milled light bulbs glass composites were synthesized and characterized. The main interest in this study that the polyurethane derived from renewable resources and waste glass are used to form the composite constituents as an attempt towards environmental preservation. Castor oil and polymeric diphenyl methane di-isocyanates (PMDI) were used in NCO/OH ratio = 2 for polyurethane synthesis. Milled glass with average particles size less than 300 μm were prepared based on waste light bulbs. Silane A1100 (as a compatibilizer) was used in order to improve the value of recycled milled glass beads. The adhesion force between polyurethane matrix and milled glass beads was evaluated using mechanical and physical tests. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to investigate dispersion and fracture surfaces of the composites. Infrared spectrum (IR), Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) behavior, and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), were employed to characterize the developed composite materials in details. Chemical resistance (weight change, thickness swelling) was measured in oil, water and dilute acetic acid media. Furthermore, tensile strength and hardness were investigated using universal materials testing machines. A slight increase in the hardness values was reported along with the increasing in particulate fillers loading up to 10% as a considerable improvement has been detected when milled glass reached 20%. The DSC analysis showed the presence of treated milled glass beads influences the thermal behavior of pure PU and composites. This can be attributed to enhancing the physical bonding between PU and silica group. Waste milled glass showed a significant effect on the thermal degradation of the composites in the presence of coupling agent. Further analysis on the tensile strength of the composites indicated that such improved mechanical properties may be attributed to the presence of coupling agent.  相似文献

Two specific chemical receptive fields of brain, namely the amygdala and the orbital-frontal cortex, are related to valence and arousal in medical experiments. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), which is a noninvasive, repeatable, and atomical tool for medical imaging in clinic system, was widely used in affective computing; however, it faces its dataset processing difficulty for dimensional reduction as well as for decreasing the computational complexity. In addition, features extraction from those de-dimensionality datasets is a challenging issue. The current work solved the de-dimensionality issue by using some preprocessing algorithms including clustering, morphological segmenting, and locality preserving projection. In order to keep useful information in fMRI dataset for reduction process, improved neighborhood pixel-based locality preserving projection (NP-LPP) algorithm was addressed and continuously for feature extraction operating using Otsu weighted sum of histogram. Furthermore, a modified covariance power spectral density (MC-PSD) separately in an fMRI Valence–Arousal experiments was measured. The results were analyzed and compared with affective norms English words system. The experiments established that the proposed methods of NP-LPP effectively simplified high complexity of fMRI, and Otsu weighted sum of histogram exhibited superior performance for features extraction compared to the MC-PSD through the calculation root mean standard error. The current proposed method provided a potential application and promising research direction on human semantic retrieval through medical imaging dataset.

Whey was employed as a reconstituting medium for dried milk used for cheese making.Ras cheese was made from fresh milk; whey was collected and dried skim milk was used to prepare a reconstituted milk with 20% total solids. Ras cheese was made from it and this process was repeated a further three times.The addition of whey was beneficial in reducing, by 50%, the time necessary to raise the acidity of milk to make it suitable for rennet action. The time necessary to make it suitable for whey removal was also reduced by 50%. Consequently, the time required for pressing was only 8 h, instead of 16 h. Generally, the use of whey is considered to be a better process for Ras cheese making. In addition to the utilisation of whey, it produced a good and acceptable cheese. The cheese was manufactured within a shorter time than cheese made with fresh milk.  相似文献

The stress corrosion cracking (scc) behaviour of -Al bronze was investigated in 3.4% NaCl with sodium sulfide contaminations under open-circuit potentials, as well as at different applied potentials using the constant slow strain rate technique. The susceptibility of -Al bronze towards stress corrosion cracking has been found to increase with an increase in sulfide ion concentration and in anodic potentials. The increase in sulfide ions in polluted saline water resulted in a reduction in the maximum stress ( max). The results support film rupture and anodic dissolution at slip steps as the operating mechanism of the stress corrosion cracking process.  相似文献
