We design and implement an efficient on-line approach, FlowMate, for clustering flows (connections) emanating from a busy server, according to shared bottlenecks. Clusters can be periodically input to load balancing, congestion coordination, aggregation, admission control, or pricing modules. FlowMate uses in-band (passive) end-to-end delay measurements to infer shared bottlenecks. Delay information is piggybacked on feedback from the receivers, or, if impossible, TCP or application round-trip time estimates are used. We simulate FlowMate and examine the effects of network load, traffic burstiness, network buffer sizes, and packet drop policies on clustering correctness, evaluated via a novel accuracy metric. We find that coordinated congestion management techniques are more fair when integrated with FlowMate. We also implement FlowMate in the Linux kernel v2.4.17 and evaluate its performance on the Emulab testbed, using both synthetic and tcplib-generated traffic. Our results demonstrate that clustering of medium to long-lived flows is accurate, even with bursty background traffic. Finally, we validate our results on the Internet Planetlab testbed.  相似文献

IoT is one of the most important technologies that are used over the past few years, where everything is connected to the Internet; it is used in many fields; one of these fields is healthcare system that includes mobile health and remote patient monitoring (patients with kidney, heart disease, cancer, blood pressure, diabetes, respiratory disease and stroke). Integration of IoT and cloud computing can improve the performance of healthcare system and the development of the innovative applications in future. One of the major problems that cannot be ignored in cloud computing system is load balancing. Solving that problem leads to reduce the response time, power consumption, cost and increase server availability. This paper is comprised of two parts which are creating and implementing healthcare system by using IoT, and solving the problem of load balancing of the cloud computing by using intelligent algorithm called sparrow search algorithm (SSA). The SSA is used to select the best virtual machine (VM) among a group of VMs depending on the its fitness value; also many and varied tasks are scheduled with priority and assign to the best VMs depending on the its instruction millions (IM), where the task that has high IM is assigned to the best VM that has high fitness value. The outcomes demonstrated that the proposed method focuses to reduce the latency and packet loss while maximizing the throughput in healthcare systems; also the SSA has proved its robustness, efficiency and success when compared to other methods in terms of reducing makespan time, total processing time and provides load balancing among VMs, where the value of makespan time, processing time and degree of imbalance has decreased into (23.05), (899.8979) and (177.7675), respectively, in case of applying 500 tasks.

Horseshoe vortex topological structure has been studied extensively in the past, traditional “saddle of separation” and new “attachment saddle point” topologies found in literature both have theoretical basis and experimental and computational evidences for support. The laminar incompressible juncture flows at low Reynolds numbers especially are observed to have new topology. Studies concerning the existence of the new topology though found in literature, the topological evolution and its dependency on various critical flow parameters require further investigation. A Particle Image Velocimetry based analysis is carried out to observe the effect of aspect ratio, δ*/D and shape of the obstacle on laminar horseshoe vortex topology for small obstacles. Rise in aspect ratio evolves the topology from the traditional to new for all the cases observed. The circular cross section obstacles are found more apt to having the new topology compared to square cross sections. It is noted that the sweeping effect of the fluid above the vortex system in which horseshoe vortex is immersed plays a critical role in this evolution. Topological evolution is observed not only in the most upstream singular point region of horseshoe vortex system but also in the corner region. The corner vortex topology evolves from the traditional type to new one before the topological evolution of the most upstream singular point, resulting in a new topological pattern of the laminar juncture flows “separation-attachment combination”. The study may help extend the understanding of the three-dimensional boundary layer separation phenomenon.  相似文献

As an eco-friendly, efficient, and low-cost technique, photoelectrochemical water splitting has attracted growing interest in the production of clean and sustainable hydrogen by the conversion of abundant solar energy. In the photoelectrochemical system, the photoelectrode plays a vital role in absorbing the energy of sunlight to trigger the water splitting process and the overall efficiency depends largely on the integration and design of photoelectrochemical devices. In recent years, the optimization of photoelectrodes and photoelectrochemical devices to achieve highly efficient hydrogen production has been extensively investigated. In this paper, a concise review of recent advances in the modification of nanostructured photoelectrodes and the design of photoelectrochemical devices is presented. Meanwhile, the general principles of structural and morphological factors in altering the photoelectrochemical performance of photoelectrodes are discussed. Furthermore, the performance indicators and first principles to describe the behaviors of charge carriers are analyzed, which will be of profound guiding significance to increasing the overall efficiency of the photoelectrochemical water splitting system. Finally, current challenges and prospects for an in-depth understanding of reaction mechanisms using advanced characterization technologies and potential strategies for developing novel photoelectrodes and advanced photoelectrochemical water splitting devices are demonstrated.  相似文献

The amount of trans fatty acids (TFA) in fourteen industrially hydrogenated and deodorized oils was determined. To achieve better sensitivity 200 μm KCl cell was used in transmission Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The results of transmission FT-IR spectroscopy were evaluated by gas chromatography (GC) with flame ionization detector (FID), and found to be comparable. All analyzed cooking oil samples had a lower trans content of 0.4–1.8%. Trans fatty acid contents of partially hydrogenated oil samples were relatively higher as comparable to those of the cooking oils. Among the samples examined, the highest level was found to be at 26.5% and 25.7% by the GC–FID and FT-IR spectroscopy, respectively. Due to harmful effects, high amounts of trans fatty acids in partially hydrogenated oils is an alarming issue for the consumer’s health and quality control authorities.  相似文献

Metal oxide nanosheets have potential applications in novel nanoelectronics as nanocrystal building blocks. In this work, the devices with a structure of Au/p-type Co3O4 nanosheets/indium tin oxide/glass having bipolar resistive switching characteristics were successfully fabricated. The experimental results demonstrate that the device have stable high/low resistance ratio that is greater than 25, endurance performance more than 200 cycles, and data retention more than 10,000 s. Such a superior performance of the as-fabricated device could be explained by the bulk film and Co3O4/indium tin oxide glass substrate interface effect.  相似文献

Canada’s aged wastewater infrastructure is failing. New financial and environmental regulatory requirements demand municipalities to estimate operating and capital expenditures for running the systems into the future, and to develop plans for financial sustainability while protecting public health and the environment. Presently, wastewater pipelines’ deterioration is not well understood and realistic deterioration models need to be developed.This paper presents a new ordinal regression model for the deterioration of wastewater pipelines based on continuation ratio logits. The model is presented using the generalized linear model formulation, and takes into account the ordinal nature of the dependent variable and the interaction effects between explanatory variables. The model provides estimates of conditional probabilities for a pipeline to advance beyond a particular internal condition grade – to worse condition – depending on pipe material and age. The model development and validation procedure is demonstrated using high quality condition assessment data for reinforced concrete (RC) and vitrified clay (VC) pipes from the City of Niagara Falls wastewater collection system.The new model is found to represent the RC and VC pipes’ degradation behavior for in-service pipes up to 110 years of age at the City of Niagara Falls wastewater collection system. RC pipes’ deterioration is found to be age dependent while VC pipes’ deterioration is not age dependent. The VC pipe finding is contrary to other deterioration model studies that indicate that the type of pipe material is not significant and that the deterioration of VC pipes is age dependent. The analysis shows, for example, that the predicted conditional probability for RC pipes to advance beyond internal condition grade 3 is estimated to be 60% at 40 years of age and it increases to 90% at 80 years. Similarly, there is a 60% chance of advancing beyond grade 4 to collapsed/collapse imminent condition at 80 years of age for RC pipes. VC pipes are found to have an indefinite service life if installed without structural damage. However, VC pipes exhibited relatively higher conditional probabilities than RC pipes for advancing to worse internal condition grades for pipes up to 65 years of age. Poor installation practices that resulted in pipe defects, such as open/displaced joints and defective connections are deemed to be the factors that resulted in VC pipe deterioration.The findings from the continuation ratio model can be used for risk-based policy development for maintenance management of wastewater collection systems. The proposed model can help in devising appropriate intervention plans and optimum network maintenance management strategies based on pipelines’ age, material type, and internal condition grades. These predictions are critical if realistic wastewater networks’ future maintenance and operation budgets are to be developed over the life of asset and to meet new regulatory reporting requirements. Further research is required to validate the proposed model in other networks and to determine if the method can be used to model the deterioration of pipe materials other than RC and VC.  相似文献

Sensor networks are expected to evolve into long-lived, open, ubiquitous, multi-purpose networked systems. We propose a new concept called AutoNomouS netWorked sEnsoR system (ANSWER) whose mission is to provide in situ users with real-time, secure information that enhances their situational and location awareness. To the best of our knowledge, solutions that accomplish this goal do not yet exist. ANSWER finds immediate applications to both overt and covert operations ranging from tactical battlefield surveillance to crisis management and homeland security. The architectural model of ANSWER is composed of a large number of sensors and of a set of (mobile) aggregation-and-forwarding nodes that organize and manage the sensors in their vicinity. In this paper we present the main features that enable ANSWER to effectively and efficiently provide secure, QoS-aware information services to in situ mobile users; namely, secure dynamic task-based networking and in-network storage to support application-level tasks and queries (each specified with desired QoS and security attributes), while hiding network-level details; and a model-based methodology exploiting QoS and security trade-offs for smart AFN mobility subject to application and network requirements and constraints. This new concept is in sharp departure from the prevalent view in NSS design that networking is independent of the task(s) at hand and information processing and storage are, primarily, the responsibility of remote entities.  相似文献

Wireless sensor networks (WSN) have attracted much attention in recent years due to their potential use in many applications such as border protection and combat field surveillance. Given the criticality of such applications, maintaining a dependable operation of the network is a fundamental objective. However, the resource-constrained nature of sensor nodes and the ad hoc formation of the network, often coupled with an unattended deployment, pose non-conventional challenges and motivate the need for special techniques for dependable design and management of WSN. In this article, we highlight the potential of careful positioning of the base station (BS), which acts as a sink node for the collected data, as a viable means for increasing the dependability of WSN. We categorize published work on optimal positioning of BS in WSN. Referring to such work as static positioning, we further introduce dynamic schemes that reposition the BS during the network operation. We show that dynamic BS positioning can be very effective in optimizing the network functional and non-functional performance objectives and in coping with dynamic changes in the environment and available network resources  相似文献
