A systematic design method to obtain broadband characteristics for singly-fed electromagnetically coupled patch antennas for circular polarization

We present a systematic, empirical design technique to obtain optimum broadband impedance, axial-ratio (AR) and gain bandwidths for a singly-fed electromagnetically coupled patch antenna for circular polarization. Our investigation has also revealed tradeoffs amongst obtainable AR, impedance bandwidth and AR bandwidth. Using two design examples at different frequency bands and for different senses of circular polarization, we have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed knowledge-based tuning method. We have obtained at C-band measured values of impedance bandwidth (VSWR/spl les/2) equal to 43%, 3-dB AR bandwidth of 8%, AR of less than 0.3 dB and a mean gain level of 7 dB. For the Ku-band element, a 40% impedance bandwidth and a 17.3% of 3-dB AR bandwidth have been obtained with a peak gain of 7.2 dBic.

Accelerated wear testing with a microfabricated surface to evaluate the lubrication ability of biomolecules on polyethylene

Wear of ultrahigh‐molecular‐weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and wear‐particle‐induced osteolysis and bone resorption are the major factors causing the failure of total joint replacements. It is feasible to improve the lubrication and reduce the wear of artificial joints. We need further understanding of the lubrication mechanism of the synovial fluid. The objective of this study is to evaluate the lubricating ability of three major components in the synovial fluid: albumin, globulin, and phospholipids. An accelerated wear testing procedure in which UHMWPE is rubbed against a microfabricated surface with controlled asperities has been developed to evaluate the lubrication behavior. An analysis of the wear particle dimensions and wear amount of the tests has provided insights for comparing their lubrication performance. It is concluded that the presence of biomolecules at the articulating interface may reduce friction. A higher concentration of a biological lubricant leads to a decrease in the wear particle width. In addition, in combination with the wear results and mechanical analysis, the roles of individual biomolecules contributing to friction and wear at the articulating interface are discussed. These results can help us to identify the role of the biomolecules in the boundary lubrication of artificial joints, and further development of lubricating additives for artificial joints may be feasible. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 基于状态维修过程中的故障预测问题分析

故障预测作为基于状态维修实现的关键,可以有效支持维修管理者的决策。参照国际标准化组织对故障预测的定义,划分故障预测过程,提出预测方法性能评估至少存在的两种方式,在分类和比较现有预测方法的基础上,明确预测方法的适用范围和限制条件,为工程预测系统的构建提供参考。
