Several variations of cache-based checkpointing for rollback error recovery from transient errors in shared-memory multiprocessors have been recently developed. By modifying the cache replacement policy, these techniques use the inherent redundancy in the memory hierarchy to periodically checkpoint the computation state. Three schemes, different in the manner in which they avoid rollback propagation, are evaluated in this paper. By simulation with address traces from parallel applications running on an Encore Multimax shared-memory multiprocessor, we evaluate the performance effect of integrating the recovery schemes in the cache coherence protocol. Our results indicate that the cache-based schemes can provide checkpointing capability with low performance overhead, but with uncontrollable high variability in the checkpoint interval  相似文献

Low molecular weight aldehydes were formed during surface water preozonization, their levels showing a positive correlation with increasing ozone dose applied and with increasing water temperature. A strong negative correlation was observed between aldehyde levels and U.V. absorbance at 254 nm.Coagulation had no influence on the aldehydes present and the influence of rapid double layer filtration varied strongly with temperature : significant removals were only observed above 10°C.Mutagenic activity generated by preozonization in Salmonella typhimurium TA98 shows an ozone dose depending relationship different from the formation of linear aldehydes. Its removal by coagulation is not effective but rapid double layer filtration reduces mutagenic activity to marginal levels.In this respect too no clear parallel can be drawn between the presence of low molecular weight aldehydes and mutagenic activity.  相似文献

Polystyrene packaging material taint was sensorily evaluated in cocoa powder for drinks and chocolate flakes using short-cut signal detection measures on differences between control and test samples and on recognition of styrene. No differences were observed in cocoa powder for drinks and plain chocolate flakes treated with 0.5 dm2 polystyrene of 1 mm thickness. However, differences were detected in milk chocolate flakes and plain chocolate flakes, which were in contact with a larger area or thicker polystyrene packaging material. The latter results were confirmed by the styrene recognition test, so polystyrene is a potential source of off-flavour for chocolate products. The amount of residual styrene in the polystyrene used was about 320 ppm, while the amounts of styrene ranged from 7 to 132 ppb in cocoa drinks and from 414 to 1447 ppb in chocolate flakes.  相似文献

In office buildings, the use of passive cooling techniques combined with a reduced cooling load may result in a good thermal summer comfort and therefore save cooling energy consumption. This is shown in the low-energy office building ‘SD Worx’ in Kortrijk (Belgium), in which natural night ventilation and an earth-to-air heat exchanger are applied. In winter, the supply air is successively heated by the earth-to-air heat exchanger and the regenerative heat exchanger, which recovers the heat from the exhaust air. In summer, the earth-to-air heat exchanger cools the ventilation air by day. In addition, natural night ventilation cools down the exposed structure which has accumulated the heat of the previous day. In this article the overall thermal comfort in the office building is evaluated by means of measuring and simulation results. Measurements of summer 2002 are discussed and compared to simulations with a coupled thermal and ventilation simulation model TRNSYS-COMIS. The simulations are used to estimate the relative importance of the different techniques. The evaluation shows that passive cooling has an important impact on the thermal summer comfort in the building. Furthermore, natural night ventilation appears to be much more effective than an earth-to-air heat exchanger to improve comfort.  相似文献

The geo-electrical measuring technique is frequently used for restoration purposes. However, this technique as developed in geology cannot be used without adaptations. The structure that is analysed has geometrical boundaries which influence the measurements and can lead to errors in the interpretation if they are not taken into account. This is illustrated by practical and theoretical tests. In an extensive test programme other aspects of the technique are also considered, such as the influence of electrode configuration and of moisture content.  相似文献

The conclusions are put forward that are adopted by a discussion group preparing the framework for a limitation policy of the radon problem in Belgium. Existing and future situations are treated in a coherent policy that is adequate for practical implementation. An action level is defined, together with a hierachy of levels for new constructions. Taste recognition threshold concentrations (TRTC) of styrene were determined in samples of oil-in-water emulsions (30–300 g kg?1 oil) and yoghurts (1–30 g kg?1 fat), spiked with styrene. The observed TRTC increased linearly with increasing fat content and ranged from 0–3 to 2–1 mg kg?1 for the emulsions and from 36 to 171 g kg?1 for the yoghurts. Styrene equilibrium partition coefficients between emulsions and their respective vapour phases were determined. The concentrations of styrene in the continuous aqueous phase of the emulsions and yoghurts were calculated at the TRTC. The styrene concentrations in the continuous phase had constant values of about 15 g kg?1 indicating that perception of styrene for oil-in–water emulsions is determined by the aqueous phase of the emulsion. The concentrations of styrene in the vapor phases above the emulsions and yoghurts were also calculated and were found to be constant at the TRTC. This relationship probably resulted from the equilibrium of distribution of styrene between the respective phases. Commercial yoghurt packed in polystyrene beakers contained styrene levels in the range 2–11 g kg?1, much lower then the TRTC reported.  相似文献

(E)-[2-(4-(Dimethylamino)phenyl)vinyl]benzenes bearing a nitrile or carboxyl group in the 2', 3', or 4' position were synthesized and tested for substrate activity with purified pig liver flavin-containing monooxygenase (FMO1). Although the nitrile derivatives were too insoluble to saturate the catalytic site at pH 7.4, they appeared to be substrates with K(m)'s somewhat above their maximum solubility (approximately equal to 0.1 mM) in the assay medium. Of the three carboxylic acid analogs, (E)-4-[2-(4(dimethylamino)phenyl)vinyl]benzoic acid had no detectable water solubility at pH 7.4, and measurements were restricted to (E)-3-[2-(4-(dimethylamino)phenyl)vinyl]benzoic acid (DS3CO) and (E)-2-[2-(4-(dimethylamino)phenyl)vinyl]benzoic acid (DS2CO). While DS3CO and DS2CO were substrates, they also inhibited FMO1 turnover. DS3CO was the more effective inhibitor, and at 2 mM it inhibited FMO1 and microsomal-catalyzed oxidation of methimazole (N-methyl-2-mercaptoimidazole) by 80-90%. Kinetic studies indicated that the aminostilbene carboxylates were noncompetitive with both the xenobiotic substrate, methimazole, and NADPH. However, inhibition constants calculated from double reciprocal plots of velocity vs NADPH were K(i)(comp) 130 and 150 microM for DS3CO and DS2CO, respectively, whereas the uncompetitive Ki's were 10-15 times higher, which suggests that inhibition of NADPH binding may be primarily responsible for inhibition of FMO1 by the aminostilbene carboxylates. This model is also consistent with inhibition of cyclohexanone monooxygenase, a bacterial analog of FMO. DS3CO and DS2CO were again noncompetitive with methimazole but primarily competitive with NADPH. The aminostilbene carboxylates had no detectable effects on activity of pig or rat liver NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase, which suggests that they are not nonspecific flavoprotein antagonists.  相似文献

Congestion on roads leads to uncertainty in travel times, which is important in delivery of goods, especially in a business environment where high levels of customer service are expected. Delivery periods to customers might be constrained by time windows, which makes the scheduling and routing of vehicles from the supplier’s side more difficult. Operations Research methods turn into heuristics for this type of application. But when, on top, uncertainty on travel times are the case, any hope of a simple and well-performing heuristic is lost. This study applies a methodology in which a heuristic is used to find a solution for scheduling and routing under deterministic travel times and, by means of simulation, though the use of Time Petri nets evaluates the sensitivity of the solution to uncertainties in travel times from one customer to the next in a route.  相似文献
