Nutrition-induced effects on the activity of enzymes of lipogenesis, fatty acid synthase (FAS: EC 2.3.1.85), ATP citrate lyase (ACL: EC 4.1.3.8), malic enzyme (ME; EC 1.1.1.40), glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH: EC 1.1.1.49) and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (PGDH; EC 1.1.1.44) were investigated in liver and interscapular brown adipose tissue (BAT) of rats. The lipogenic enzymes could be grouped into two categories according to their response to dietary manipulations: FAS and ACL, both key enzymes of lipogenesis, responded fast and strongly to dietary manipulations. ME, G6PDH and PGDH, enzymes which also contribute to metabolic pathways other than lipogenesis, responded in a more sustained and less pronounced fashion. Feed deprivation caused the specific activities of lipogenic enzymes to decline several-fold. Refeeding of previously fasted (up to 3 days) animals increased the activities dramatically (10-to 25-fold) to far above pre-fasting levels ("overshoot"). Repetition of the fasting/refeeding regimen increasingly impaired the ability of both tissues to synthesize overshooting enzyme activities in the subsequent refeeding period. The fasting-induced decline of the activities was prevented when sugars were provided to the animals via drinking water. The sugars displayed different effectivities: sucrose = glucose > fructose > maltose > > lactose. Sugars as the sole nutrient after fasting were also able to induce overshooting enzyme activities. Again, activities of FAS and ACL responded in a more pronounced fashion than the other three enzymes. Transition from feeding one diet to feeding a new diet of different composition led to adaptation of the lipogenic enzyme activities to levels characteristic for the new diet. Replacing a low-carbohydrate with a high-carbohydrate diet proceeded with major alterations of enzyme activities. This process of attaining a new level took up to 20 days and involved pronounced oscillations of the specific activities. In contrast, when a high-carbohydrate diet was replaced with another diet. particular one high in fat, transition to new enzyme activities was completed within 2-3 days and proceeded without oscillations. Music is a fundamental part of most cultures. Controlling music playback has commonly been used to demonstrate new interaction
techniques and algorithms. In particular, controlling music playback has been used to demonstrate and evaluate gesture recognition
algorithms. Previous work, however, used gestures that have been defined based on intuition, the developers’ preferences,
and the respective algorithm’s capabilities. In this paper we propose a refined process for deriving gestures from constant
user feedback. Using this process every result and design decision is validated in the subsequent step of the process. Therefore,
comprehensive feedback can be collected from each of the conducted user studies. Along the process we develop a set of free-hand
gestures for controlling music playback. The situational context is analysed to shape the usage scenario and derive an initial
set of necessary functions. In a successive user study the set of functions is validated and proposals for gestures are collected
from participants for each function. Two gesture sets containing static and dynamic gestures are derived and analysed in a
comparative evaluation. The comparative evaluation shows the suitability of the identified gestures and allows further refinement.
Our results indicate that the proposed process, that includes validation of each design decision, improves the final results.
By using the process to identify gestures for controlling music playback we not only show that the refined process can successfully
be applied, but we also provide a consistent gesture set that can serve as a realistic benchmark for gesture recognition algorithms. 相似文献

121 9–14 yr olds were divided into 4 groups based on their WISC-R Full Scale IQ score: (a) 70–79, (b) 80–89, (c) 90–99, and (d) >100. Performance of these 4 groups was compared on the Halstead-Reitan Neuropsychological Test Battery for Children (HRNTBC) using a multiple-levels-of-inference framework: (a) level of performance, (b) pattern of performance, and (c) right–left hand differences. Results indicate a significant influence of IQ on level of performance for 6 of 14 test measures. Tests of problem-solving abilities, language skills and auditory perceptual analysis were most affected, whereas little influence was observed for tests of basic and simple motor functions. Right–left hand differences were also unaffected by IQ level. Results call attention to the importance of considering IQ level in the interpretation of performance on the HRNTBC. Adequate patient selection is required to limit the clinical workload and improve the cost-effectiveness of noninvasive hemodynamic evaluation of the aortoiliac system. In a prospective blinded fashion the traditional invasive technique of direct femoral artery pressure measurements and the computerized Doppler spectrum analysis of blood flow velocities in the common femoral artery were studied. Both tests for rapid assessment of aortoiliac obstruction were compared with duplex ultrasonographic imaging, using a peak systolic velocity ratio of 2.5 to demonstrate stenoses of 50% or more. In a series of 17 consecutive patients (34 aortoiliac segments) with suspected aortoiliac obstructive disease, a good level of agreement (kappa = 0.6) was found for both methods when compared with duplex scanning. Analysis of deviations from the duplex registrations indicated an overestimation of the pathologic cases using femoral artery pressure measurements and an underestimation using Doppler spectrum analysis of blood flow velocities in the common femoral artery. Both methods were well tolerated, but femoral artery pressure measurements had a higher technical failure rate. Because of its noninvasive character and its feasibility the Doppler technique is preferred for the selection of patients for more extensive duplex sonographic investigation. 相似文献
