Synthesis and the Antiinflammatory Activity of New N-Acyl-5-Bromanthranilamides

Nineteen N-acyl-5-bromanthranilic acid amides were synthesized via acylation of 5-bromanthranilamide with suitable anhydrides. The antimicrobial activity of the synthesized compounds with respect to Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli was evaluated. Compounds with diphenyl, furoyl, and tetrachlorophthalyl moieties in the acyl part of the molecule showed significant inhibition of microbial growth. The minimum inhibiting concentrations of this compounds were 15.6 μg/ml against S. aureus and 15.6 – 31 μg/ml against E. coli. Pathomorphologic verification of the prenatal diagnosis of developmental defects in trimester II fetuses]

153 foetuses were studied obtained after the artificial abortion for genetical indications. The scheme of the material investigation is given. Isolated, systemic and multiple defects were found in 39.0, 12.1 and 48.9%, respectively, and the contribution of the syndrome forms in the multiple developmental disturbances was 60.9%. The interruption of the pregnancy in 2% of cases was assessed as unfounded: as a consequence of hyperdiagnosis and in cases of treatable defects. The frequency of the discrepancy between prenatal and pathology diagnoses was 31.8% including hyperdiagnosis of the defect (1.3%), nosological disagreement (13.3%), the lack of diagnosis of the additional defects detectable during II trimester by present ultrasound methods (17.2%). The efficacy of the work of the prenatal diagnostic centre is, according to the authors, the number of justified interruptions of pregnancy (98% in this study).     

Ability of microflora to multiply on polymer materials used in hermetically sealed compartments

The main representatives of human auto-microflora were examined to identify the microorganisms that can grow and develop on various polymers used in an enclosed interior. Bacteria of the Genera Pseudomonas, Proteus and Bacillus were found to be most proliferative. Microbial growth was strongly influenced by environmental parameters of the enclosure and by the chemical structure of the polymer.     

The system of designation of surgical suture materials

The authors suggest a unified system of designation of type--sizes of surgical suture materials of various nature and structure, which removes the existing discrepancy between the numbering of foreign and Soviet threads as well as of Soviet threads produced by different enterprises of the country. Introduction of the new system of metric sizes of the suture threads will allow surgeons to be properly orientated in the choice of the necessary suture material and make easier the work of services engaged in the development and realization of surgical suture materials.     

Testing the scanning effect of a range of orientations by visual cortex neurons of the cat

The preservation of the effect of dynamic scanning of a part of the orientation diapason during development of neuron responses in the primary visual cortex of cat was examined after equalization of their latencies and after estimation of only highly significant fragments of their reactions. It was found that this effect was preserved in 13 neurons out of 17 examined ones: it remained invariable in 7 units of this group and was modified due to a shift of the scanning beginning along the diapason of orientations, to an increase of scanning diapason or to a change of scanning direction. The stabilization of the orientational tuning occurred only in 4 cells after equalization of latencies. The obtained results confirm that the dynamic changes of orientation tuning in the majority of visual cortex neurons are connected with reorganization of the time pattern of the reaction, as suggested by the hypothesis of the spatial-temporal orientation coding in the visual system.     

Effect of combined injection of hydrocortisone and edta on the number of antibody-forming cells in the spleen of mice immunized with sheep's erythrocytes

Experiments on (CBA x C57BL)F₁ mice showed that injection of hydrocortisone into the animals in a dose of 1 mg per mouse 24 h after immunization with sheep's erythrocytes, and against the background of repeated injections of EDTA, leads to a reduction in the relative number of plaque-forming cells by more than two-thirds in the spleen of the mice compared with the effect of the two agents separately, and by more than five-sixths compared with the control. It is suggested that this may be the result of the more intensive incorporation of hydrocortisone associated with the prolonged hypocalcemic action of the complexone, EDTA.Laboratory of Regulation of Immunopoiesis, Institute of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, Siberian Branch, Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR, Novosibirsk.
